33:1 David cum inmutavit vultum suum coram Abimelech et dimisit eum et abiit
33:1 For David, when he changed his countenance before Achimelech, who dismissed him, and he went his way. [1 Kings 21.]
33:2 confitemini Domino in cithara in psalterio decem cordarum psallite illi
33:2 Give praise to the Lord on the harp; sing to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings.
33:3 cantate ei canticum novum bene psallite in vociferatione
33:3 Sing to him a new canticle, sing well unto him with a loud noise.
33:4 quia rectum est verbum Domini et omnia opera eius in fide
33:4 For the word of the Lord is right, and all his works are done with faithfulness.
33:5 diligit misericordiam et iudicium misericordia Domini plena est terra
33:5 He loveth mercy and judgment; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.
33:6 verbo Domini caeli firmati sunt et spiritu oris eius omnis virtus eorum
33:6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were established; and all the power of them by the spirit of his mouth:
33:7 congregans sicut in utre aquas maris ponens in thesauris abyssos
33:7 Gathering together the waters of the sea, as in a vessel; laying up the depths in storehouses.
33:8 timeat Dominum omnis terra ab eo autem commoveantur omnes inhabitantes orbem
33:8 Let all the earth fear the Lord, and let all the inhabitants of the world be in awe of him.
33:9 quoniam ipse dixit et facta sunt ipse mandavit et creata sunt
33:9 For he spoke and they were made: he commanded and they were created.
33:10 Dominus dissipat consilia gentium reprobat autem cogitationes populorum
33:10 The Lord bringeth to nought the counsels of nations; and he rejecteth the devices of people, and casteth away the counsels of princes.
33:11 consilium autem Domini in aeternum manet cogitationes cordis eius in generatione et generationem
33:11 But the counsel of the Lord standeth for ever: the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
33:12 beata gens cuius est Dominus Deus eius populus quem elegit in hereditatem sibi
33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord: the people whom he hath chosen for his inheritance.
33:13 de caelo respexit Dominus vidit omnes filios hominum
33:13 The Lord hath looked from heaven: he hath beheld all the sons of men.
33:14 de praeparato habitaculo suo respexit super omnes qui habitant terram
33:14 From his habitation which he hath prepared, he hath looked upon all that dwell on the earth.
33:15 qui finxit singillatim corda eorum qui intellegit omnia opera illorum
33:15 He who hath made the hearts of every one of them: who understandeth all their works.
33:16 non salvatur rex per multam virtutem et gigans non salvabitur in multitudine virtutis suae
33:16 The king is not saved by a great army: nor shall the giant be saved by his own great strength.
33:17 fallax equus ad salutem in abundantia autem virtutis suae non salvabitur
33:17 Vain is the horse for safety: neither shall he be saved by the abundance of his strength.
33:18 ecce oculi Domini super metuentes eum qui sperant super misericordia eius
33:18 Behold the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear him: and on them that hope in his mercy.
33:19 ut eruat a morte animas eorum et alat eos in fame
33:19 To deliver their souls from death; and feed them in famine.
33:20 anima nostra sustinet Dominum quoniam adiutor et protector noster est
33:20 Our soul waiteth for the Lord: for he is our helper and protector.
33:21 quia in eo laetabitur cor nostrum et in nomine sancto eius speravimus
33:21 For in him our heart shall rejoice: and in his holy name we have trusted.
33:22 fiat misericordia tua Domine super nos quemadmodum speravimus in te
33:22 Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we have hooped in thee.
