5. The Crucifixion and Death
64/81 – Sorrowful Mysteries
We contemplate Jesus nailed to the Cross, forgiving His executioners, entrusting His mother to John, and surrendering His spirit to the Father. The sky darkens, the earth trembles, the veil of the Temple tears. From His pierced heart flow blood and water—the birth of the Church.
This mystery teaches love and self-sacrifice. Love reaches perfection only when it gives all. To die to self for the good of others is to imitate the Crucified. The Cross reveals the full measure of divine love.
