5:1 Salomo war aber Beherrscher aller Reiche vom Euphratstrom bis zum Philisterland und bis an die Grenze Ägyptens; sie zahlten Tribut und waren Salomo untertan, solange er lebte.

5:1 And Solomon had under him all the kingdoms, from the river to the land of the Philistines, even to the border of Egypt: and they brought him presents, and served him all the days of his life.

5:2 Der tägliche Speisebedarf Salomos betrug dreißig Kor Feinmehl und sechzig Kor gewöhnliches Mehl,

5:2 And the provision of Solomon, for each day, was thirty measures of fine flour, and threescore measures of meal;

5:3 zehn gemästete Rinder, zwanzig Rinder von der Weide und hundert Stück Kleinvieh, ungerechnet die Hirsche, Gazellen, Damhirsche und das gemästete Geflügel.

5:3 Ten fat oxen, and twenty out of the pastures, and a hundred rams; besides venison of harts, roes, and buffles, and fatted fowls.

5:4 Denn er herrschte über alle Länder diesseits des Euphrats von Thiphsah bis nach Gaza, über alle Könige diesseits des Euphrats, und lebte in Frieden mit allen Völkern ringsum,

5:4 For he had all the country which was beyond the river, from Thaphsa to Gazan, and all the kings of those countries: and he had peace on every side round about.

5:5 so daß Juda und Israel von Dan bis Beerseba in Sicherheit wohnten, ein jeder unter seinem Weinstock und unter seinem Feigenbaum, solange Salomo lebte.

5:5 And Juda, and Israel, dwelt without any fear, every one under his vine, and under his fig tree, from Dan to Bersabee, all the days of Solomon.

5:6 Salomo besaß auch viertausend Paar Pferde für seine Kriegswagen und zwölftausend Reitpferde,

5:6 And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of chariot horses, and twelve thousand for the saddle.

5:7 und jene Vögte versorgten den König Salomo und alle, deren Unterhalt dem König Salomo oblag, ein jeder während seines Monats, und ließen es an nichts fehlen.

5:7 And the foresaid governors of the king fed them; and they furnished the necessaries also for king Solomon's table, with great care, in their time.

5:8 Auch die Gerste und das Stroh für die Wagen- und die Reitpferde hatten sie an den Ort zu liefern, wo er sich gerade aufhielt, ein jeder, wie es ihn der Reihe nach traf.

5:8 They brought barley also, and straw for the horses and beasts, to the place where the king was, according as it was appointed them.

5:9 Gott verlieh aber dem Salomo Weisheit und Einsicht in sehr hohem Maße und einen Verstand so weitreichend wie der Sand, der am Ufer des Meeres liegt,

5:9 And God gave to Solomon wisdom, and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, as the sand that is on the sea shore.

5:10 so daß die Weisheit Salomos größer war als die Weisheit aller Bewohner des Morgenlandes und als alle Weisheit Ägyptens;

5:10 And the wisdom of Solomon surpassed the wisdom of all the Orientals, and of the Egyptians;

5:11 ja, er war weiser als alle Menschen, auch weiser als der Esrahiter Ethan und als Heman, Kalkol und Darda, die Söhne Mahols, und sein Ruhm war unter allen Völkern ringsum verbreitet.

5:11 And he was wiser than all men: wiser than Ethan, the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Dorda, the sons of Mahol, and he was renowned in all nations round about.

5:12 Er verfaßte dreitausend Sprüche, und die Zahl seiner Lieder betrug tausend und fünf.

5:12 Solomon also spoke three thousand parables: and his poems were a thousand and five.

5:13 Er besang die Bäume von der Zeder auf dem Libanon an bis zum Ysop, der (aus den Fugen) an der Mauer hervorwächst; er besang auch die vierfüßigen Tiere und die Vögel, das Gewürm und die Fische;

5:13 And he treated about trees, from the cedar that is in Libanus, unto the hyssop that cometh out of the wall: and he discoursed of beasts, and of fowls, and of creeping things, and of fishes.

5:14 und aus allen Völkern kamen die Leute, um die Weisheit Salomos zu hören, von allen Königen der Erde her Leute, die von seiner Weisheit gehört hatten.

5:14 And they came from all nations to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and from all the kings of the earth, who heard of his wisdom.

5:15 Hiram aber, der König von Tyrus, schickte seine Knechte an Salomo; denn er hatte gehört, daß man ihn als Nachfolger seines Vaters zum König gesalbt hatte; Hiram war nämlich zeitlebens mit David befreundet gewesen.

5:15 And Hiram, king of Tyre, sent his servants to Solomon: for he heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram had always been David's friend.

5:16 Da ließ auch Salomo dem Hiram durch eine Gesandtschaft sagen:

5:16 Solomon sent to Hiram, saying:

5:17 »Du weißt selbst, daß mein Vater David dem Namen des HERRN, seines Gottes, keinen Tempel hat erbauen können wegen der Kriege, in die seine Feinde ihn rings verwickelten, bis der HERR sie ihm unter seine Fußsohlen legte.

5:17 Thou knowest the will of David, my father, and that he could not build a house to the name of the Lord his God, because of the wars that were round about him, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

5:18 Da mir jetzt aber der HERR, mein Gott, auf allen Seiten Ruhe verschafft hat, so daß kein Widersacher und keine Schwierigkeit mehr vorhanden ist,

5:18 But now the Lord my God hath given me rest round about; and there is no adversary nor evil occurrence.

5:19 so beabsichtige ich nun, dem Namen des HERRN, meines Gottes, einen Tempel zu erbauen, wie der HERR dies meinem Vater David verheißen hat mit den Worten: ›Dein Sohn, den ich als deinen Nachfolger auf deinen Thron setzen werde, der soll meinem Namen das Haus bauen.‹

5:19 Wherefore I purpose to build a temple to the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spoke to David my father, saying: Thy son, whom I will set upon the throne, in thy place, he shall build a house to my name.

5:20 So gib nun Befehl, daß man mir Zedern auf dem Libanon fälle; meine Leute sollen dabei mit den deinigen zusammenarbeiten, und den Lohn für deine Leute will ich dir geben, ganz wie du es bestimmst. Du weißt ja selbst, daß es keinen bei uns gibt, der Bauholz so zu hauen verstände wie die Sidonier.«

5:20 Give orders, therefore, that thy servants cut me down cedar trees, out of Libanus, and let my servants be with thy servants: and I will give thee the hire of thy servants whatsoever thou wilt ask: for thou knowest how there is not among my people a man that has skill to hew wood like to the Sidonians.

5:21 Als Hiram diese Botschaft Salomos vernahm, freute er sich außerordentlich und rief aus: »Gepriesen sei heute der HERR, der dem David einen weisen Sohn zum Herrscher über dies große Volk gegeben hat!«

5:21 Now when Hiram had heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced exceedingly, and said: Blessed be the Lord God this day, who hath given to David a very wise son over this numerous people.

5:22 Hierauf ließ Hiram dem Salomo durch eine Gesandtschaft sagen: »Ich habe deine Botschaft an mich vernommen. Ich werde alle deine Wünsche bezüglich des Zedern- und Zypressenholzes erfüllen.

5:22 And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying: I have heard all thou hast desired of me; and I will do all thy desire concerning cedar trees, and fir trees.

5:23 Meine Leute sollen die Hölzer vom Libanon ans Meer hinabschaffen; dann will ich Flöße daraus auf dem Meer herstellen lassen und sie bis an den Ort schaffen, den du mir angeben wirst; dort lasse ich sie wieder auseinandernehmen, und du läßt sie dann abholen. Dafür mußt du aber auch meine Wünsche erfüllen, indem du meinen Hofhalt mit Speisebedarf versorgst.«

5:23 My servants shall bring them down from Libanus to the sea: and I will put them together in floats, on the sea, and convey them to the place, which thou shalt signify to me, and will land them there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt allow me necessaries to furnish food for my household.

5:24 So lieferte also Hiram dem Salomo Zedern- und Zypressenholz, soviel er wünschte;

5:24 So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees, and fir trees, according to all his desire.

5:25 Salomo dagegen lieferte dem Hiram 20000 Kor Weizen für den Unterhalt seines Hofes und 20000 Bath feinstes Öl von zerstoßenen Oliven; so viel hatte Salomo dem Hiram Jahr für Jahr zu liefern.

5:25 And Solomon allowed Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat, for provision for his house, and twenty measures of the purest oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram every year.

5:26 Der HERR aber verlieh dem Salomo Weisheit, wie er ihm verheißen hatte; und es bestand ein freundschaftliches Verhältnis zwischen Salomo und Hiram, denn sie hatten einen Bund miteinander geschlossen.

5:26 And the Lord gave wisdom to Solomon, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and they two made a league together.

5:27 Hierauf hob der König Salomo aus ganz Israel Fronarbeiter aus, so daß die Fronenden sich auf dreißigtausend Mann beliefen.

5:27 And king Solomon chose workmen out of all Israel, and the levy was of thirty thousand men.

5:28 Er schickte sie abwechselnd auf den Libanon, jeden Monat zehntausend, so daß sie einen Monat auf dem Libanon waren und zwei Monate jeder zu Hause blieb; Adoniram hatte die Oberaufsicht über die Fronarbeiter. –

5:28 And he sent them to Libanus, ten thousand every month, by turns, so that two months they were at home: and Adoniram was over this levy.

5:29 Außerdem hatte Salomo 70000 Lastträger und 80000 Steinhauer im Gebirge (Juda),

5:29 And Solomon had seventy thousand to carry burdens, and eighty thousand to hew stones in the mountain:

5:30 ungerechnet die 3300 von Salomo bestellten Werkführer, welche die Arbeiten zu leiten und die Leute, die mit der Arbeit beschäftigt waren, zu beaufsichtigen hatten.

5:30 Besides the overseers who were over every work, in number three thousand and three hundred, that ruled over the people, and them that did the work.

5:31 Der König gab auch Befehl, große und schwere Steine zu brechen, um die Grundmauern des Tempels mit Quadersteinen zu legen.

5:31 And the king commanded that they should bring great stones, costly stones, for the foundation of the temple, and should square them:

5:32 Die Bauleute Salomos und die Bauleute Hirams behieben sie dann gemeinsam und richteten die Hölzer und die Steine zum Bau des Tempels her.

5:32 And the masons of Solomon, and the masons of Hiram, hewed them: and the Giblians prepared timber and stones to build the house.
