21:1 Weiter erging das Wort des HERRN an mich folgendermaßen:

21:1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

21:2 »Menschensohn, richte deine Blicke nach Süden zu, predige gegen Mittag hin und weissage gegen den Wald, der im Gefilde des Südlandes liegt,

21:2 Son of man, set thy face against the way of the south, and drop towards the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field.

21:3 und sprich zu dem Walde im Südland: ›Höre das Wort des HERRN! So hat Gott der HERR gesprochen: Siehe, ich will ein Feuer in dir anzünden, das soll alle saftreichen und alle dürren Bäume in dir verzehren; die lodernde Flamme soll nicht erlöschen, und alle Gesichter vom Südland bis zum Norden sollen durch sie versengt werden!

21:3 And say to the south forest: Hear the word of the Lord: Thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will kindle a fire in thee, and will burn in thee every green tree, and every dry tree: the flame of the fire shall not be quenched: and every face shall be burned in it, from the south even to the north.

21:4 Dann wird alles Fleisch einsehen, daß ich, der HERR, sie angezündet habe, indem sie nicht erlischt.‹«

21:4 And all flesh shall see, that I the Lord have kindled it, and it shall not be quenched.

21:5 Da entgegnete ich: »Ach, HERR, mein Gott! Die Leute sagen von mir: ›Trägt der nicht immer Rätselreden vor?‹«

21:5 And I said: Ah, ah, ah, O Lord God: they say of me: Doth not this man speak by parables?

21:6 Da erging das Wort des HERRN an mich folgendermaßen:

21:6 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

21:7 »Menschensohn, richte deine Blicke auf Jerusalem, predige gegen ihr Heiligtum und weissage gegen das Land Israel!

21:7 Son of man, set thy face toward Jerusalem, and let thy speech flow towards the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel:

21:8 Sage zum Lande Israel: ›So hat der HERR gesprochen: Siehe, ich will an dich! Ich will mein Schwert aus der Scheide ziehen und Gerechte wie Gottlose in dir ausrotten!

21:8 And say to the land of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God: Behold I come against thee, and I will draw forth my sword out of its sheath, and will cut off in thee the just, and the wicked.

21:9 Weil ich beide, Gerechte wie Gottlose, in dir ausrotten will, darum soll mein Schwert aus der Scheide fahren gegen alles Fleisch vom Südland bis zum Norden.

21:9 And forasmuch as I have cut off in thee the just and the wicked, therefore shall my sword go forth out of its sheath against all flesh, from the south even to the north.

21:10 Dann wird alle Welt erkennen, daß ich, der HERR, mein Schwert aus der Scheide habe herausfahren lassen, und es nicht wieder dahin zurückkehrt.‹«

21:10 That all flesh may know that I the Lord have drawn my sword out of its sheath not to be turned back.

21:11 »Du aber, Menschensohn, seufze! Mit zusammenbrechenden Hüften und in bitterem Schmerz seufze vor ihren Augen!

21:11 And thou, son of man, mourn with the breaking of thy loins, and with bitterness sigh before them.

21:12 Wenn sie dich dann fragen, worüber du seufzest, so antworte ihnen: ›Über eine Schreckenskunde! Bei ihrem Eintreffen werden alle Herzen verzagen und alle Arme schlaff herabhängen; aller Mut wird schwinden, und alle Knie werden wie Wasser zerfließen.‹ Fürwahr, es kommt und geht in Erfüllung!« – so lautet der Ausspruch Gottes des HERRN.

21:12 And when they shall say to thee: Why mournest thou? thou shalt say: For that which I hear: because it cometh, and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be made feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and water shall run down every knee: behold it cometh, and it shall be done, saith the Lord God.

21:13 Hierauf erging das Wort des HERRN an mich folgendermaßen:

21:13 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

21:14 »Menschensohn, verkünde folgende Weissagung: So hat der HERR gesprochen: Sprich zu ihnen: ›Ein Schwert, ein Schwert ist geschärft und auch gefegt;

21:14 Son of man, prophesy, and say: Thus saith the Lord God: Say: The sword, the sword is sharpened, and furbished.

21:15 um ein Schlachten anzurichten, dazu ist es geschärft: damit es blitzt und blinkt, dazu ist es gefegt. Oder sollen wir uns freuen? Die für meinen Sohn bestimmte Rute verachtet alles Holz.

21:15 It is sharpened to kill victims: it is furbished that it may glitter: thou removest the sceptre of my son, thou hast cut down every tree.

21:16 Er hat es zum Fegen hingegeben, um es in die Hand zu nehmen; es ist geschärft worden, das Schwert, und gefegt, damit man es dem Würger in die Hand gebe.‹

21:16 And I have given it to be furbished, that it may be handled: this sword is sharpened, and it is furbished, that it may be in the hand of the slayer.

21:17 Schreie und wehklage, Menschensohn! Denn dieses Schwert richtet sich gegen mein Volk, richtet sich gegen alle Fürsten Israels: dem Schwert verfallen sind sie samt meinem Volk! Darum schlage dich auf die Hüften,

21:17 Cry, and howl, O son of man, for this sword is upon my people, it is upon all the princes of Israel, that are fled: they are delivered up to the sword with my people, strike therefore upon thy thigh,

21:18 denn die Probe ist gemacht! Aber wie, wenn die Rute selber (das Dreinhauen) verschmäht? Es soll nicht geschehen!« – lautet der Ausspruch Gottes des HERRN.

21:18 Because it is tried: and that when it shall overthrow the sceptre, and it shall not be, saith the Lord God.

21:19 »Du aber, Menschensohn, weissage und schlage die Hände zusammen! Denn das Schwert wird zweifach, ja dreifach kommen. Ein Mordschwert ist es, ein großes Mordschwert, das sie umkreisen soll,

21:19 Thou therefore, O son of man, prophesy, and strike thy hands together, and let the sword be doubled, and let the sword of the slain be tripled: this is the sword of a great slaughter, that maketh them stand amazed,

21:20 damit ihre Herzen verzagen und viele tot hinstürzen an all ihren Toren. Ich lasse blinken das Schwert. Wehe! Zum Blitzen ist es gefertigt, zum Schlachten geschärft!

21:20 And languish in heart, and that multiplieth ruins. In all their gates I have set the dread of the sharp sword, the sword that is furbished to glitter, that is made ready for slaughter.

21:21 Setze in Schrecken, fahre nach rechts, kehre dich nach links, wohin eben deine Schneide gerichtet ist!

21:21 Be thou sharpened, go to the right hand, or to the left, which way soever thou hast a mind to set thy face.

21:22 So will denn auch ich meine Hände zusammenschlagen und meinem Zorn freien Lauf lassen: ich, der HERR, habe es gesprochen!«

21:22 And I will clap my hands together, and will satisfy my indignation: I the Lord have spoken.

21:23 Darauf erging das Wort des HERRN an mich folgendermaßen:

21:23 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

21:24 »Du aber, Menschensohn, stelle dir zwei Wege dar, auf denen das Schwert des Königs von Babylon kommen soll: von einem Lande sollen sie beide ausgehen. Dann stelle einen Wegweiser auf am Anfang des Weges nach der einen wie nach der anderen Stadt,

21:24 And thou son of man, set thee two ways, for the sword of the king of Babylon to come: both shall come forth out of one land: and with his hand he shall draw lots, he shall consult at the head of the way of the city.

21:25 damit das Schwert sowohl über Rabbath im Ammoniterlande als auch über Juda und Jerusalem in dessen Mitte kommen kann.

21:25 Thou shalt make a way that the sword may come to Rabbath of the children of Ammon, and to Juda unto Jerusalem the strong city.

21:26 Denn der König von Babylon steht am Scheidewege, am Anfang der beiden Wege, um eine Offenbarung zu erhalten: er schüttelt die Pfeile, befragt die Hausgötter und beschaut die Leber.

21:26 For the king of Babylon stood in the highway, at the head of two ways, seeking divination, shuffling arrows: he inquired of the idols, and consulted entrails.

21:27 In seiner Rechten ist das Los ›Jerusalem‹, daß er den Mund auftue zum Kriegsgeschrei, lauten Schlachtruf erschallen lasse, Sturmböcke gegen die Tore aufstelle, einen Wall aufschütte und Belagerungstürme baue.

21:27 On his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem, to set battering rams, to open the mouth in slaughter, to lift up the voice in howling, to set engines against the gates, to cast up a mount, to build forts.

21:28 Freilich scheint das ihnen eine trügerische Wahrsagung zu sein, da sie ja die feierlichsten Eide geschworen haben; doch er bringt ihre Verschuldung (bei sich) in Erinnerung, damit sie gefangen werden.«

21:28 And he shall be in their eyes as one consulting the oracle in vain, and imitating the leisure of sabbaths: but he will call to remembrance the iniquity that they may be taken.

21:29 Darum hat Gott der HERR so gesprochen: »Weil ihr mich an eure Verschuldung erinnert habt dadurch, daß eure Übertretungen aufgedeckt worden sind, so daß eure Sünden in all eurem Tun klar zu Tage liegen – ja, weil ihr euch so in Erinnerung gebracht habt, sollt ihr um ihretwillen ergriffen werden.

21:29 Therefore thus saith the Lord God: Because you have remembered your iniquity, and have discovered your prevarications, and your sins have appeared in all your devices: because, I say, You have remembered, you shall be taken with the hand.

21:30 Du aber, verruchter Frevler, Fürst Israels, dessen Tag gekommen ist zur Zeit, wo seine Schuld endgültig gebüßt wird –

21:30 But thou profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come that hath been appointed in the time of iniquity:

21:31 so hat Gott der HERR gesprochen: ›Hinweg mit der Königsbinde! Herunter mit der Krone! Das bleibt nicht so, wie es jetzt ist! Das Niedrige soll erhöht werden, und das Hohe muß herunter!

21:31 Thus saith the Lord God: Remove the diadem, take off the crown: is it not this that hath exalted the low one, and brought down him that was high?

21:32 Zu Trümmern, Trümmern, Trümmern will ich (alles) machen! Wehe ihm! So soll es bleiben, bis der kommt, der das Anrecht darauf hat: dem will ich es übergeben.‹«

21:32 I will shew it to be iniquity, iniquity, iniquity: but this was not done till he came to whom judgment belongeth, and I will give it him.

21:33 »Du aber, Menschensohn, verkünde folgende Weissagung: So hat Gott der HERR in betreff der Ammoniter und in betreff ihrer Hohnreden gesprochen! Verkünde: ›Ein Schwert, ein Schwert ist gezückt zum Schlachten, ist gefegt zum Blinken, damit es blitze –

21:33 And thou son of man, prophesy, and say: Thus saith the Lord God concerning the children of Ammon, and concerning their reproach, and thou shalt say: O sword, O sword, come out of the scabbard to kill, be furbished to destroy, and to glitter,

21:34 während man dich durch nichtige Gesichte getäuscht und dir Lügen gewahrsagt hat –, um es verruchten Frevlern an den Hals zu setzen, deren Tag kommt zu der Zeit, wo ihre Schuld endgültig gebüßt wird.

21:34 Whilst they see vain things in thy regard, and they divine lies: to bring thee upon the necks of the wicked that are wounded, whose appointed day is come in the time of iniquity.

21:35 Stecke das Schwert wieder in seine Scheide! An dem Orte, wo du geschaffen bist, im Lande, aus dem du stammst, will ich dich richten

21:35 Return into thy sheath. I will judge thee in the place wherein thou wast created, in the land of thy nativity.

21:36 und will meinen Zorn sich über dich ergießen lassen, das Feuer meines Ingrimms gegen dich anfachen und dich der Gewalt tierischer Menschen preisgeben, die Verderben (für dich) schmieden.

21:36 And I will pour out upon thee my indignation: in the fire of my rage will I blow upon thee, and will give thee into the hands of men that are brutish and contrive thy destruction.

21:37 Dem Feuer sollst du zum Fraß dienen, dein Blut soll inmitten deines Landes vergossen liegen, deiner soll nicht mehr gedacht werden; denn ich, der HERR, habe gesprochen!‹«

21:37 Thou shalt be fuel for the fire, thy blood shall be in the midst of the land, thou shalt be forgotten: for I the Lord have spoken it.
