16:1 Dies habe ich euch gesagt, damit ihr nicht Anstoß nehmt.

16:1 These things have I spoken to you things have I spoken to you that you may not be scandalized.

16:2 Man wird euch in den Bann tun; ja, es kommt die Stunde, wo jeder, der euch tötet, Gott eine Opfergabe darzubringen meint.

16:2 They will put you out of the synagogues: yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doth a service to God.

16:3 Und so werden sie verfahren, weil sie weder den Vater noch mich erkannt haben.

16:3 And these things will they do to you; because they have not known the Father nor me.

16:4 Aber ich habe euch dies gesagt, damit, wenn die Stunde der Erfüllung kommt, ihr daran gedenkt, daß ich es euch gesagt habe.« »Dies habe ich euch aber nicht gleich anfangs gesagt, weil ich noch bei euch war.

16:4 But these things I have told you, that when the hour shall come, you may remember that I told you of them.

16:5 Jetzt aber gehe ich hin zu dem, der mich gesandt hat, und keiner von euch fragt mich: ›Wohin gehst du?‹,

16:5 But I told you not these things from the beginning, because I was with you. And now I go to him that sent me, and none of you asketh me: Whither goest thou?

16:6 sondern weil ich dies zu euch gesagt habe, hat die Traurigkeit euer Herz erfüllt.

16:6 But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

16:7 Aber ich sage euch die Wahrheit: Es ist gut für euch, daß ich weggehe. Denn wenn ich nicht weggehe, so wird der Helfer nicht zu euch kommen; wenn ich aber hingegangen bin, werde ich ihn zu euch senden.

16:7 But I tell you the truth: it is expedient to you that I go. For if I go not, the Paraclete will not come to you: but if I go, I will send him to you.

16:8 Und wenn er gekommen ist, wird er der Welt die Augen öffnen über Sünde und über Gerechtigkeit und über Gericht:

16:8 And when he is come, he will convince the world of sin and of justice and of judgment.

16:9 über Sünde, (die darin besteht) daß sie nicht an mich glauben;

16:9 Of sin: because they believed not in me.

16:10 über Gerechtigkeit, (die darin besteht) daß ich zum Vater hingehe und ihr mich fortan nicht mehr seht;

16:10 And of justice: because I go to the Father: and you shall see me no longer.

16:11 über Gericht, (das darin besteht) daß der Fürst dieser Welt gerichtet ist.

16:11 And of judgment: because the prince of this world is already judged.

16:12 Noch vieles hätte ich euch zu sagen, doch ihr könnt es jetzt nicht tragen.

16:12 I have yet many things to say to you: but you cannot bear them now.

16:13 Wenn aber jener gekommen ist, der Geist der Wahrheit, der wird euch in die ganze Wahrheit einführen; denn er wird nicht von sich selbst aus reden, sondern was er hört, das wird er reden und euch das Zukünftige verkündigen.

16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will teach you all truth. For he shall not speak of himself: but what things soever he shall hear, he shall speak. And the things that are to come, he shall shew you.

16:14 Er wird mich verherrlichen, denn von meinem Eigentum wird er es nehmen und euch verkündigen. Alles, was der Vater hat, ist mein;

16:14 He shall glorify me: because he shall receive of mine and shall shew it to you.

16:15 deshalb habe ich gesagt, daß er es von meinem Eigentum nimmt und es euch verkündigen wird.«

16:15 All things whatsoever the Father hath are mine. Therefore I said that he shall receive of me and shew it to you.

16:16 »Nur noch eine kurze Zeit, so seht ihr mich nicht mehr; dann wieder eine kurze Zeit, so werdet ihr mich sehen.«

16:16 A little while, and now you shall not see me: and again a little while, and you shall see me: because I go to the Father.

16:17 Da sagten einige von seinen Jüngern zueinander: »Was meint er damit, daß er zu uns sagt: ›Nur noch eine kurze Zeit, so seht ihr mich nicht mehr; dann wieder eine kurze Zeit, so werdet ihr mich sehen‹, und weiter: ›Ich gehe hin zum Vater‹?«

16:17 Then some of his disciples said one to another: What is this that he saith to us: A little while, and you shall not see me: and again a little while, and you shall see me, and, Because I go to the Father?

16:18 Sie sagten also: »Was meint er mit dem Ausdruck ›eine kurze Zeit‹? Wir verstehen seine Worte nicht.«

16:18 They said therefore: What is this that he saith, A little while? We know not what he speaketh.

16:19 Jesus merkte, daß sie ihn darüber befragen wollten, und sagte zu ihnen: »Darüber verhandelt ihr miteinander, (was das zu bedeuten habe) daß ich gesagt habe: ›Nur noch eine kurze Zeit, so seht ihr mich nicht mehr, dann wieder eine kurze Zeit, so werdet ihr mich sehen‹?

16:19 And Jesus knew that they had a mind to ask him. And he said to them: Of this do you inquire among yourselves, because I said: A little while, and you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me?

16:20 Wahrlich, wahrlich ich sage euch: ihr werdet weinen und wehklagen, die Welt aber wird sich freuen; ihr werdet traurig sein, doch eure Traurigkeit wird zur Freude werden.

16:20 Amen, amen, I say to you, that you shall lament and weep, but the world shall rejoice: and you shall be made sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

16:21 Wenn eine Frau Mutter werden soll, so ist sie traurig, weil ihre Stunde gekommen ist; wenn sie aber das Kind geboren hat, denkt sie nicht mehr an die Angst um der Freude willen, daß ein Mensch in die Welt geboren ist.

16:21 A woman, when she is in labour, hath sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she hath brought forth the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

16:22 So seid auch ihr jetzt in Traurigkeit; aber ich werde euch wiedersehen: dann wird euer Herz sich freuen, und niemand wird euch eure Freude rauben.

16:22 So also you now indeed have sorrow: but I will see you again and your heart shall rejoice. And your joy no man shall take from you.

16:23 Und an jenem Tage werdet ihr mich um nichts mehr befragen. Wahrlich, wahrlich ich sage euch: Wenn ihr den Vater um etwas bitten werdet, so wird er es euch in meinem Namen geben.

16:23 And in that day you shall not ask me any thing. Amen, amen, I say to you: if you ask the Father any thing in my name, he will give it you.

16:24 Bisher habt ihr noch nie um etwas in meinem Namen gebeten: bittet, so werdet ihr empfangen, damit eure Freude vollkommen sei.«

16:24 Hitherto, you have not asked any thing in my name. Ask, and you shall receive; that your joy may be full.

16:25 »Dies habe ich euch in Gleichnissen verkündet; es kommt aber die Stunde, da werde ich nicht mehr in Gleichnissen zu euch reden, sondern euch mit voller Offenheit Kunde über den Vater geben.

16:25 These things I have spoken to you in proverbs. The hour cometh when I will no longer speak to you in proverbs, but will shew you plainly of the Father.

16:26 An jenem Tage werdet ihr in meinem Namen bitten, und ich sage euch nicht, daß ich den Vater für euch bitten werde;

16:26 In that day, you shall ask in my name: and I say not to you that I will ask the Father for you.

16:27 denn er selbst, der Vater, hat euch lieb, weil ihr mich geliebt und den Glauben gewonnen habt, daß ich von Gott ausgegangen bin.

16:27 For the Father himself loveth you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came out from God.

16:28 Ich bin vom Vater ausgegangen und in die Welt gekommen; hinwiederum verlasse ich die Welt und kehre zum Vater zurück.« –

16:28 I came forth from the Father and am come into the world: again I leave the world and I go to the Father.

16:29 Da sagten seine Jünger: »Siehe, jetzt redest du frei heraus und gebrauchst keine bildliche Rede mehr;

16:29 His disciples say to him: Behold, now thou speakest plainly and speakest no proverb.

16:30 jetzt wissen wir, daß du alles weißt und niemand dich erst zu befragen braucht; darum glauben wir, daß du von Gott ausgegangen bist.«

16:30 Now we know that thou knowest all things and thou needest not that any man should ask thee. By this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

16:31 Jesus antwortete ihnen: »Jetzt glaubt ihr?

16:31 Jesus answered them: Do you now believe?

16:32 Wisset wohl: es kommt die Stunde, ja sie ist schon da, daß ihr euch zerstreuen werdet, ein jeder in das Seine, und ihr mich allein lassen werdet. Und doch bin ich (alsdann) nicht allein, denn der Vater ist bei mir.

16:32 Behold, the hour cometh, and it is now come, that you shall be scattered every man to his own and shall leave me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

16:33 Dies habe ich zu euch geredet, damit ihr in mir Frieden habet. In der Welt habt ihr Bedrängnis; doch seid getrost: ich habe die Welt überwunden!«

16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you shall have distress. But have confidence. I have overcome the world.
