6:1 Jericho aber hatte (seine Tore) geschlossen und blieb den Israeliten gegenüber verriegelt, so daß niemand aus- oder eingehen konnte.

6:1 Now Jericho was close shut up and fenced, for fear of the children of Israel, and no man durst go out or come in.

6:2 Da sagte der HERR zu Josua: »Hiermit gebe ich Jericho und seinen König samt den streitbaren Männern in deine Gewalt.

6:2 And the Lord said to Josue: Behold I have given into thy hands Jericho, and the king thereof, and all the valiant men.

6:3 So zieht denn um die Stadt herum, alle Kriegsleute, einmal rings um die Stadt her. So sollst du es sechs Tage lang tun;

6:3 Go round about the city all ye fighting men once a day: so shall ye do for six days.

6:4 dabei sollen sieben Priester sieben Lärmposaunen vor der Lade her tragen. Am siebten Tage aber sollt ihr siebenmal um die Stadt herumziehen, und die Priester sollen dabei in die Posaunen stoßen.

6:4 And on the seventh day the priests shall take the seven trumpets, which are used in the jubilee, and shall go before the ark of the covenant: and you shall go about the city seven times, and the priests shall sound the trumpets.

6:5 Wenn man dann ein Zeichen mit dem Lärmhorn gibt, soll das gesamte Volk, sobald ihr den Posaunenschall hört, ein lautes Kriegsgeschrei erheben; dann wird die Stadtmauer von selbst in sich zusammenstürzen, und das Volk soll sie ersteigen, wo ein jeder gerade steht.«

6:5 And when the voice of the trumpet shall give a longer and broken tune, and shall sound in your ears, all the people shall shout together with a very great shout, and the walls of the city shall fall to the ground, and they shall enter in every one at the place against which they shall stand.

6:6 Darauf berief Josua, der Sohn Nuns, die Priester und befahl ihnen: »Hebt die Bundeslade auf, und sieben Priester sollen sieben Lärmposaunen vor der Lade des HERRN her tragen!«

6:6 Then Josue, the son of Nun, called the priests, and said to them: Take the ark of the covenant: and let seven other priests take the seven trumpets of the jubilee, and march before the ark of the Lord.

6:7 Hierauf befahl er dem Volk: »Zieht rings um die Stadt herum, und zwar sollen die Gewappneten vor der Lade des HERRN her ziehen!«

6:7 And he said to the people: Go, and compass the city, armed, marching before the ark of the Lord.

6:8 Als nun Josua dem Volk diesen Befehl erteilt hatte, da setzten sich die sieben Priester in Bewegung, welche die sieben Lärmposaunen vor dem HERRN her trugen, und stießen in die Posaunen, während die Bundeslade des HERRN ihnen nachfolgte;

6:8 And when Josue had ended his words, and the seven priests blew the seven trumpets before the ark of the covenant of the Lord,

6:9 die Gewappneten aber zogen vor den Priestern einher, die in die Posaunen stießen, und die Nachhut zog hinter der Lade her, während man dabei fortwährend in die Posaunen stieß.

6:9 And all the armed men went before, the rest of the common people followed the ark, and the sound of the trumpets was heard on all sides.

6:10 Dem Volk aber hatte Josua streng geboten: »Ihr dürft kein Kriegsgeschrei erheben und eure Stimme nicht hören lassen, und kein Wort darf aus eurem Munde kommen bis zu dem Tage, an dem ich euch zurufe: ›Laßt ein Geschrei erschallen!‹ Dann müßt ihr das Kriegsgeschrei erheben.«

6:10 But Josue had commanded the people, saying: You shall not shout, nor shall your voice be heard, nor any word go out of your mouth: until the day come wherein I shall say to you: Cry, and shout.

6:11 So ließ er denn die Lade des HERRN einmal den Umzug rings um die Stadt machen; hierauf begaben sie sich wieder ins Lager und blieben über Nacht im Lager. –

6:11 So the ark of the Lord went about the city once a day, and returning into the camp, abode there.

6:12 Am folgenden Morgen machte sich Josua früh auf, und die Priester trugen wiederum die Lade des HERRN;

6:12 And Josue rising before day, the priests took the ark of the Lord,

6:13 und die sieben Priester, welche die sieben Lärmposaunen vor der Lade des HERRN her trugen, stießen beim Gehen fortwährend in die Posaunen, während die Gewappneten vor ihnen herzogen und die Nachhut hinter der Lade des HERRN folgte, indem man dabei immerfort in die Posaunen stieß.

6:13 And seven of them seven trumpets, which are used in the jubilee: and they went before the ark of the Lord, walking and sounding the trumpets: and the armed men went before them, and the rest of the common people followed the ark, and they blew the trumpets.

6:14 So zogen sie am zweiten Tage einmal um die Stadt herum und kehrten dann wieder ins Lager zurück. So machten sie es sechs Tage lang.

6:14 And they went round about the city the second day once, and returned into the camp. So they did six days.

6:15 Am siebten Tage aber machten sie sich früh beim Aufgang der Morgenröte auf und zogen in derselben Weise siebenmal um die Stadt herum; nur an diesem Tage umzogen sie die Stadt siebenmal.

6:15 But the seventh day, rising up early, they went about the city, as it was ordered, seven times.

6:16 Beim siebten Umzug aber, als die Priester in die Posaunen gestoßen hatten, rief Josua dem Volke zu: »Erhebt das Kriegsgeschrei! Denn der HERR hat die Stadt in eure Gewalt gegeben!

6:16 And when in the seventh going about the priests sounded with the trumpets, Josue said to all Israel: Shout: for the Lord hath delivered the city to you:

6:17 Aber die Stadt mit allem, was darin ist, soll dem Bann für den HERRN geweiht sein; nur die Dirne Rahab soll am Leben bleiben, sie nebst allen denen, die sich bei ihr im Hause befinden; denn sie hat die Kundschafter versteckt, die wir ausgesandt hatten.

6:17 And let this city be an anathema, and all things that are in it, to the Lord. Let only Rahab, the harlot, live, with all that are with her in the house: for she hid the messengers whom we sent.

6:18 Nehmt ihr euch aber ja vor dem gebannten Gut in acht, daß ihr nicht, obgleich ihr es dem Bann geweiht habt, euch doch etwas von dem gebannten Gut aneignet und dadurch das Lager der Israeliten dem Bannfluch überliefert und es ins Unglück stürzt!

6:18 But beware ye lest you touch ought of those things that are forbidden, and you be guilty of transgression, and all the camp of Israel be under sin, and be troubled.

6:19 Alles Silber und Gold nebst den kupfernen und eisernen Geräten soll dem HERRN geheiligt sein und in den Schatz des HERRN kommen!« –

6:19 But whatsoever gold or silver there shall be, or vessels of brass and iron, let it be consecrated to the Lord, laid up in his treasures.

6:20 Da erhob das Volk das Kriegsgeschrei, und die Posaunen ertönten; und als das Volk den Posaunenschall vernahm und ein lautes Kriegsgeschrei erhoben hatte, da stürzte die Mauer in sich zusammen, und das Volk drang in die Stadt ein, ein jeder da, wo er gerade stand. Als sie so die Stadt eingenommen hatten,

6:20 So all the people making a shout, and the trumpets sounding, when the voice and the sound thundered in the ears of the multitude, the walls forthwith fell down: and every man went up by the place that was over against him: and they took the city,

6:21 vollstreckten sie den Bann an allem, was sich in der Stadt befand, an Männern wie an Weibern, an jung und alt, an den Rindern wie am Kleinvieh und an den Eseln: alles wurde mit der Schärfe des Schwertes niedergemacht.

6:21 And killed all that were in it, man and woman, young and old. The oxen also, and the sheep, and the asses, they slew with the edge of the sword.

6:22 Den beiden Männern aber, die das Land ausgekundschaftet hatten, hatte Josua befohlen: »Geht in das Haus der Dirne und führt das Weib mit allen ihren Angehörigen von dort heraus, wie ihr es ihr zugeschworen habt!«

6:22 But Josue said to the two men that had been sent for spies: Go into the harlot's house, and bring her out, and all things that are hers, as you assured her by oath.

6:23 Da gingen die jungen Männer, die beiden Kundschafter, hin und führten Rahab nebst ihren Eltern und Geschwistern und allen ihren Angehörigen hinaus: alle ihre Verwandten führten sie hinaus und brachten sie an einem Orte außerhalb des israelitischen Lagers unter.

6:23 And the young men went in, and brought out Rahab, and her parents, her brethren also, and all her goods, and her kindred, and made them to stay without the camp.

6:24 Die Stadt aber mit allem, was darin war, ließen sie in Flammen aufgehen; nur das Silber und Gold sowie die kupfernen und eisernen Geräte taten sie in den Schatz im Hause des HERRN.

6:24 But they burned the city, and all things that were therein; except the gold and silver, and vessels of brass and iron, which they consecrated unto the treasury of the Lord.

6:25 Die Dirne Rahab aber nebst ihrer Familie und allen ihren Angehörigen ließ Josua am Leben, und sie ist inmitten der Israeliten bis auf den heutigen Tag wohnen geblieben, weil sie die Boten versteckt hatte, die Josua zur Auskundschaftung Jerichos ausgesandt hatte.

6:25 But Josue saved Rahab the harlot, and her father's house, and all she had, and they dwelt in the midst of Israel until this present day: because she hid the messengers whom he had sent to spy out Jericho. At that time, Josue made an imprecation, saying:

6:26 Damals ließ Josua (das Volk) folgenden Eid schwören: »Verflucht vor dem HERRN sei der Mann, der es unternimmt, diese Stadt Jericho wieder aufzubauen! Um den Preis seines Erstgeborenen wird er ihren Grundstein legen und um den Preis seines jüngsten Sohnes ihre Tore einsetzen!«

6:26 Cursed be the man before the Lord, that shall raise up and build the city of Jericho. In his firstborn may he lay the foundation thereof, and in the last of his children set up its gates.

6:27 Der HERR aber war mit Josua, so daß sein Ruhm sich durch das Land verbreitete.

6:27 And the Lord was with Josue, and his name was noised throughout all the land.
