94:1 Du Gott der Rache, o HERR, du Gott der Rache, erscheine!

94:1 The Lord is the God to whom revenge belongeth: the God of revenge hath acted freely.

94:2 Erhebe dich, Richter der Erde, vergilt den Stolzen nach ihrem Tun!

94:2 Lift up thyself, thou that judgest the earth: render a reward to the proud.

94:3 Wie lange noch sollen die Gottlosen, HERR, wie lange noch sollen die Gottlosen jubeln,

94:3 How long shall sinners, O Lord: how long shall sinners glory?

94:4 sollen sie geifern und trotzige Reden führen, alle Übeltäter stolz sich brüsten?

94:4 Shall they utter, and speak iniquity: shall all speak who work injustice?

94:5 Dein Volk, o HERR, zertreten sie und bedrücken dein Erbe;

94:5 Thy people, O Lord, they have brought low: and they have afflicted thy inheritance.

94:6 sie erwürgen Witwe und Fremdling und morden die Waisen

94:6 They have slain the widow and the stranger: and they have murdered the fatherless.

94:7 und sagen dabei: »Nicht sieht es der HERR« oder: »Nicht merkt es der Gott Jakobs.«

94:7 And they have said: The Lord shall not see: neither shall the God of Jacob understand.

94:8 Nehmt Verstand an, ihr Unvernünftigen im Volk, und ihr Toren: wann wollt ihr Einsicht gewinnen?

94:8 Understand, ye senseless among the people: and, you fools, be wise at last.

94:9 Der das Ohr gepflanzt, der sollte nicht hören? Der das Auge gebildet, der sollte nicht sehn?

94:9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? or he that formed the eye, doth he not consider?

94:10 Der die Völker erzieht, der sollte nicht strafen, er, der die Menschen Erkenntnis lehrt?

94:10 He that chastiseth nations, shall he not rebuke: he that teacheth man knowledge?

94:11 Der HERR kennt wohl die Gedanken der Menschen, daß nur ein Hauch sie sind.

94:11 The Lord knoweth the thoughts of men, that they are vain.

94:12 Wohl dem Manne, den du, HERR, in Zucht nimmst, und den du aus deinem Gesetz belehrst,

94:12 Blessed is the man whom thou shalt instruct, O Lord: and shalt teach him out of thy law.

94:13 damit er sich Ruhe verschaffe vor Unglückstagen, bis dem Frevler die Grube man gräbt!

94:13 That thou mayst give him rest from the evil days: till a pit be dug for the wicked.

94:14 Denn der HERR wird sein Volk nicht verstoßen und sein Erbe nicht verlassen;

94:14 For the Lord will not cast off his people: neither will he forsake his own inheritance.

94:15 denn Recht muß doch Recht bleiben, und ihm werden alle redlich Gesinnten sich anschließen.

94:15 Until justice be turned into judgment: and they that are near it are all the upright in heart.

94:16 Wer leistet mir Beistand gegen die Bösen? Wer tritt für mich ein gegen die Übeltäter?

94:16 Who shall rise up for me against the evildoers? or who shall stand with me against the workers of iniquity?

94:17 Wäre der HERR nicht mein Helfer gewesen, so wohnte meine Seele wohl schon im stillen Land.

94:17 Unless the Lord had been my helper, my soul had almost dwelt in hell.

94:18 Sooft ich dachte: »Mein Fuß will wanken«, hat deine Gnade, HERR, mich immer gestützt;

94:18 If I said: My foot is moved: thy mercy, O Lord, assisted me.

94:19 bei der Menge meiner Sorgen in meiner Brust haben deine Tröstungen mir das Herz erquickt.

94:19 According to the multitude of my sorrows in my heart, thy comforts have given joy to my soul.

94:20 Sollte verbündet dir sein der Richterstuhl des Unheils, der Verderben schafft durch Gesetzesverdrehung?

94:20 Doth the seat of iniquity stick to thee, who framest labour in commandment?

94:21 Sie tun sich ja zusammen gegen das Leben des Gerechten und verurteilen unschuldig Blut.

94:21 They will hunt after the soul of the just, and will condemn innocent blood.

94:22 Doch der HERR ist mir zur festen Burg geworden, mein Gott zu meinem Zufluchtsfelsen;

94:22 But the Lord is my refuge: and my God the help of my hope.

94:23 er läßt ihren Frevel auf sie selber fallen und wird sie ob ihrer Bosheit vertilgen: ja vertilgen wird sie der HERR, unser Gott.

94:23 And he will render them their iniquity: and in their malice he will destroy them: the Lord our God will destroy them.
