8:1 And it came to pass after this that David defeated the Philistines, and brought them down, and David took the bridle of tribute out of the hand of the Philistines,

8:1 Nachmals besiegte David die Philister und demütigte sie und machte so der Oberherrschaft der Philister ein Ende. –

8:2 And he defeated Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the earth: and he measured with two lines, one to put to death, and one to save alive: and Moab was made to serve David under tribute.

8:2 Er besiegte auch die Moabiter und maß sie mit der Meßschnur ab, indem er sie auf die Erde niederlegen ließ; und zwar maß er zwei Schnurlängen ab, um (die betreffenden) zu töten, und eine volle Schnurlänge für die, welche am Leben bleiben sollten. So wurden die Moabiter Davids tributpflichtige Untertanen. –

8:3 David defeated also Adarezer the son of Rohob king of Soba, when he went to extend his dominion over the river Euphrates.

8:3 Sodann besiegte David Hadad-Eser, den Sohn Rehobs, den König von Zoba, als dieser ausgezogen war, um seine Herrschaft am Euphrat wiederherzustellen.

8:4 And David took from him a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen, and houghed all the chariot horses: and only reserved of them for one hundred chariots.

8:4 Dabei machte David 1700 Reiter von ihm und 20000 Mann Fußvolk zu Gefangenen und ließ die Gespanne sämtlich lähmen; nur hundert Wagenpferde behielt er von diesen für sich. –

8:5 And the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Adarezer the king of Soba: and David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.

8:5 Als dann die Syrer von Damaskus dem König Hadad-Eser von Zoba zu Hilfe kamen, erschlug David von den Syrern 22000 Mann

8:6 And David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and Syria served David under tribute, and the Lord preserved David in all his enterprises, whithersoever he went.

8:6 und setzte dann Vögte im damascenischen Syrien ein, so daß die dortigen Syrer zu tributpflichtigen Untertanen Davids wurden. So verlieh der HERR dem David den Sieg auf allen Zügen, die er unternahm.

8:7 And David took the arms of gold, which the servants of Adarezer wore and brought them to Jerusalem.

8:7 Auch erbeutete David die goldenen Schilde, welche die Dienstleute Hadad-Esers getragen hatten, und ließ sie nach Jerusalem bringen;

8:8 And out of Bete, and out of Beroth, cities of Adarezer, king David took and exceeding great quantity of brass.

8:8 und in Betah und Berothai, den Städten Hadad-Esers, fiel dem König David sehr viel Kupfer in die Hände. –

8:9 And Thou the king of Emath heard that David had defeated all the forces of Adarezer.

8:9 Als aber Thoi, der König von Hamath, erfuhr, daß David die ganze Heeresmacht Hadad-Esers geschlagen hatte,

8:10 And Thou sent Joram his son to king David, to salute him, and to congratulate with him, and to return him thanks: because he had fought against Adarezer, and had defeated him. For Thou was an enemy to Adarezer, and in his hand were vessels of gold, and vessels of silver, and vessels of brass:

8:10 sandte er seinen Sohn Joram zum König David, um ihn zu begrüßen und ihm Glück zu wünschen, daß er aus dem Kriege mit Hadad-Eser als Sieger hervorgegangen war – Thoi hatte nämlich auf dem Kriegsfuß mit Hadad-Eser gestanden –; und jener brachte silberne, goldene und kupferne Geräte mit,

8:11 And king David dedicated them to the Lord, together with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all the nations, which he had subdued:

8:11 die der König David ebenfalls dem HERRN weihte, wie er es auch mit dem Silber und Gold machte, das ihm bei allen unterworfenen Völkern in die Hände gefallen war,

8:12 Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalec, and of the spoils of Adarezer the son of Rohob king of Soba.

8:12 nämlich bei den Syrern, Moabitern, Ammonitern, Philistern und Amalekitern, sowie mit der Beute, die ihm bei Hadad-Eser, dem Sohne Rehobs, dem König von Zoba, in die Hände gefallen war.

8:13 David also made himself a name, when he returned after taking Syria in the valley of the saltpits, killing eighteen thousand:

8:13 Als David dann von dem Siege über die Syrer zurückkehrte, gewann er neuen Ruhm, indem er die Edomiter im Salztal besiegte und 18000 Mann von ihnen erschlug.

8:14 And he put guards in Edom, and placed there a garrison: and all Edom was made to serve David: and the Lord preserved David in all enterprises he went about.

8:14 Auch über alle Teile des Landes der Edomiter setzte er Vögte ein, so daß das ganze Land Edom ihm untertan wurde. So verlieh der HERR dem David den Sieg überall, wohin er zog.

8:15 And David reigned over all Israel: and David did judgment and justice to all his people.

8:15 So herrschte denn David über ganz Israel und ließ Recht und Gerechtigkeit in seinem ganzen Volke walten. –

8:16 And Joab the son Sarvia was over the army: and Josaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder:

8:16 Joab, der Sohn der Zeruja, stand an der Spitze des Heeres; Josaphat, der Sohn Ahiluds, war Kanzler;

8:17 And Sadoc the son of Achitob, and Achimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests: and Saraias was the scribe:

8:17 Zadok, der Sohn Ahitubs, und Abjathar, der Sohn Ahimelechs, waren Priester, Seraja Staatsschreiber,

8:18 And Banaias the son of Joiada was over the Cerethi and Phelethi: and the sons of David were the princes.

8:18 Benaja, der Sohn Jojadas, Befehlshaber der (Leibwache der) Krethi und Plethi; Priesterrang hatten auch die Söhne Davids.
