17:1 And Josaphat his son reigned in his stead, and grew strong against Israel.

17:1 Sein Nachfolger auf dem Throne wurde sein Sohn Josaphat, der mit Nachdruck gegen Israel auftrat.

17:2 And he placed numbers of soldiers in all the fortified cities of Juda. And he put garrisons in the land of Juda, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

17:2 Er legte Kriegsvolk in alle festen Plätze Judas und verteilte Besatzungen über das Land Juda und in die Städte von Ephraim, die sein Vater Asa erobert hatte.

17:3 And the Lord was with Josaphat, because he walked in the first ways of David his father: and trusted not in Baalim,

17:3 Und der HERR war mit Josaphat, weil er auf den alten Wegen seines Ahnherrn David wandelte und nicht die Baale aufsuchte,

17:4 But in the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not according to the sins of Israel.

17:4 sondern sich an den Gott seines Ahnherrn hielt und nach dessen Geboten wandelte und es nicht wie die Israeliten machte.

17:5 And the Lord established the kingdom in his hand, and all Juda brought presents to Josaphat: and he acquired immense riches, and much glory.

17:5 Darum ließ der HERR das Königtum in seiner Hand erstarken, so daß alle Judäer ihm Geschenke brachten und ihm Reichtum und Ehre in hohem Maße zuteil wurde.

17:6 And when his heart had taken courage for the ways of the Lord, he took away also the high places and the groves out of Juda.

17:6 Weil ihm dann der Mut auf den Wegen des HERRN wuchs, beseitigte er auch noch den Höhendienst und die Götzenbäume in Juda.

17:7 And in the third year of his reign, he sent of his princes Benhail, and Abdias, and Zacharias, and Nathanael, and Micheas, to teach in the cites of Juda:

17:7 In seinem dritten Regierungsjahr aber sandte er seine höchsten Beamten Ben-Hail, Obadja, Sacharja, Nethaneel und Michaja aus, damit sie den Städten Judas Unterweisung erteilten,

17:8 And with them the Levites, Semeias, and Nathanias, and Zabadias, and Asael, and Semiramoth, and Jonathan, and Adonias, and Tobias, and Thobadonias Levites, and with them Elisama, and Joram priests.

17:8 und mit ihnen die Leviten Semaja, Nethanja, Sebadja, Asahel, Semiramoth, Jonathan, Adonia, Tobia und Tob-Adonia [die Leviten], dazu mit ihnen die Priester Elisama und Joram.

17:9 And they taught the people in Juda, having with them the book of the law of the Lord: and they went about all the cities of Juda, and instructed the people.

17:9 Diese lehrten also in Juda, indem sie das Gesetzbuch des HERRN bei sich hatten und in allen Ortschaften Judas umherzogen und unter dem Volke lehrten.

17:10 And the fear of the Lord came upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Juda, and they durst not make war against Josaphat.

17:10 Vom HERRN aber ging ein Schrecken über alle Königreiche in den Ländern aus, die rings um Juda her lagen, so daß sie keinen Krieg mit Josaphat anfingen;

17:11 The Philistines also brought presents to Josaphat, and tribute in silver, and the Arabians brought him cattle, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and as many he-goats.

17:11 ja sogar von den Philistern kamen Gesandte, die dem Josaphat Geschenke und Silber als die ihnen auferlegte Abgabe brachten; auch die Araber brachten ihm Kleinvieh, nämlich 7700 Widder und 7700 Böcke.

17:12 And Josaphat grew, and became exceeding great: and he built in Juda houses like towers, and walled cities.

17:12 So wurde Josaphat allmählich immer größer und mächtiger und legte in Juda Burgen und Vorratsstädte an.

17:13 And he prepared many works in the cities of Juda: and he had warriors, and valiant men in Jerusalem.

17:13 Er besaß auch bedeutende Vorräte in den Städten Judas, dazu in Jerusalem ein Heer tapferer Krieger,

17:14 Of whom this is the number of the houses and families of every one: in Juda captains of the army, Ednas the chief, and with him three hundred thousand most valiant men.

17:14 das, nach Familien geordnet, folgende Zusammensetzung aufwies: Von Juda waren als Befehlshaber von Tausendschaften: Adna, der Heerführer, der 300000 tapfere Krieger unter sich hatte;

17:15 After him Johanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand.

17:15 neben ihm Johanan, der Heerführer, der 280000 Mann befehligte;

17:16 And after him was Amasias the son of Zechri, consecrated to the Lord, and with him were two hundred thousand valiant men.

17:16 neben ihm Amasja, der Sohn Sichris, der sich dem HERRN freiwillig zur Verfügung gestellt hatte und 200000 tapfere Krieger unter sich hatte.

17:17 After him was Eliada valiant in battle, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield.

17:17 Aus Benjamin aber waren: der tapfere Kriegsmann Eljada, der Befehlshaber über 200000 Mann, die mit Bogen und Schild bewaffnet waren;

17:18 After him also was Jozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand ready for war.

17:18 und neben ihm Josabad, der 180000 kriegsgerüstete Leute befehligte.

17:19 All these were at the hand of the king, beside others, whom he had put in the walled cities, in all Juda.

17:19 Diese waren es, die im Dienst des Königs standen, abgesehen von jenen, welche der König in die festen Plätze von ganz Juda gelegt hatte.
