6:1 And after that men began to be multiplied upon the earth, and daughters were born to them,

6:1 Als nun die Menschen sich auf der Oberfläche des Erdbodens zu vermehren begannen und ihnen auch Töchter geboren wurden

6:2 The sons of God seeing the daughters of men, that they were fair, took to themselves wives of all which they chose.

6:2 und die Gottessöhne die Schönheit der Menschentöchter sahen, nahmen sie sich von ihnen diejenigen zu Frauen, die ihnen besonders gefielen.

6:3 And God said: My spirit shall not remain in man for ever, because he is flesh, and his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.

6:3 Da sagte der HERR: »Mein Geist soll nicht für immer im Menschen erniedrigt sein, weil er ja Fleisch ist; so sollen denn seine Tage (fortan) nur noch hundertundzwanzig Jahre betragen!«

6:4 Now giants were upon the earth in those days. For after the sons of God went in to the daughters of men, and they brought forth children, these are the mighty men of old, men of renown.

6:4 Zu jener Zeit waren die Riesen auf der Erde und auch später noch, solange die Gottessöhne mit den Menschentöchtern verkehrten und diese ihnen (Kinder) gebaren. Das sind die Helden, die in der Urzeit lebten, die hochberühmten Männer.

6:5 And God seeing that the wickedness of men was great on the earth, and that all the thought of their heart was bent upon evil at all times,

6:5 Als nun der HERR sah, daß die Bosheit der Menschen groß war auf der Erde und alles Sinnen und Trachten ihres Herzens immerfort nur böse war,

6:6 It repented him that he had made man on the earth. And being touched inwardly with sorrow of heart,

6:6 da gereute es ihn, die Menschen auf der Erde geschaffen zu haben, und er wurde in seinem Herzen tief betrübt.

6:7 He said: I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth, from man even to beasts, from the creeping thing even to the fowls of the air, for it repenteth me that I have made them.

6:7 Darum sagte der HERR: »Ich will die Menschen, die ich geschaffen habe, vom ganzen Erdboden weg vertilgen, die Menschen wie das Vieh, das Gewürm wie die Vögel des Himmels; denn ich bereue es, sie geschaffen zu haben.«

6:8 But Noe found grace before the Lord.

6:8 Noah aber hatte Gnade beim HERRN gefunden.

6:9 These are the generations of Noe: Noe was a just and perfect man in his generations, he walked with God.

6:9 Dies ist die Geschichte Noahs: Noah war ein frommer, unsträflicher Mann unter seinen Zeitgenossen: mit Gott wandelte Noah.

6:10 And he begot three sons, Sem, Cham, and Japheth.

6:10 Er hatte drei Söhne: Sem, Ham und Japheth.

6:11 And the earth was corrupted before God, and was filled with iniquity.

6:11 Die Erde wurde aber immer verderbter vor Gott und war voll von Gewalttaten.

6:12 And when God had seen that the earth was corrupted (for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth),

6:12 Als nun Gott die Erde ansah und die völlige Verderbtheit wahrnahm – denn alles Fleisch hatte sich in ihrem ganzen Tun auf Erden zum Bösen gewandt –,

6:13 He said to Noe: The end of all flesh is come before me, the earth is filled with iniquity through them, and I will destroy them with the earth.

6:13 da sagte Gott zu Noah: »Das Ende aller lebenden Geschöpfe ist bei mir beschlossen; denn die Erde ist durch ihre Schuld voll von Gewalttaten; darum will ich sie mitsamt der Erde verderben.

6:14 Make thee an ark of timber planks: thou shalt make little rooms in the ark, and thou shalt pitch it within and without.

6:14 Baue dir eine Arche aus Tannenholz; mit lauter Zellen sollst du die Arche versehen und sie von innen und von außen mit Erdharz verpichen.

6:15 And thus shalt thou make it. The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits: the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

6:15 Und so sollst du sie bauen: dreihundert Ellen soll die Länge der Arche betragen, fünfzig Ellen ihre Breite und dreißig Ellen ihre Höhe.

6:16 Thou shalt make a window in the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish the top of it: and the door of the ark thou shalt set in the side: with lower, middle chambers, and third stories shalt thou make it.

6:16 Eine Lichtöffnung sollst du an der Arche anbringen, und zwar eine Elle hoch sollst du sie ganz herum hoch oben herstellen, und den Eingang zur Arche an ihrer Seite anbringen und ein unteres, ein mittleres und ein oberes Stockwerk in ihr anlegen.

6:17 Behold, I will bring the waters of a great flood upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life under heaven. All things that are in the earth shall be consumed.

6:17 Denn wisse wohl: ich will die große Flut über die Erde kommen lassen, um alle Geschöpfe, die Lebensodem in sich haben, unter dem ganzen Himmel zu vertilgen: alles, was auf der Erde lebt, soll umkommen!

6:18 And I will establish my covenant with thee, and thou shalt enter into the ark, thou and thy sons, and thy wife, and the wives of thy sons with thee.

6:18 Mit dir aber will ich einen Bund schließen: du sollst in die Arche gehen, du und mit dir deine Söhne und dein Weib und die Weiber deiner Söhne.

6:19 And of every living creature of all flesh, thou shalt bring two of a sort into the ark, that they may live with thee: of the male sex, and the female.

6:19 Und von allen lebenden Wesen, von allen Tieren, sollst du je ein Paar in die Arche mit hineinnehmen, um sie mit dir am Leben zu erhalten: je ein Männliches und ein Weibliches sollen es sein.

6:20 Of fowls according to their kind, and of beasts in their kind, and of every thing that creepeth on the earth according to its kind: two of every sort shall go in with thee, that they may live.

6:20 Von jeder Art der Vögel und von jeder Art der Vierfüßler, von jeder Art der Kriechtiere des Erdbodens – von diesen allen soll immer ein Paar zu dir in die Arche hineinkommen, damit sie am Leben erhalten bleiben.

6:21 Thou shalt take unto thee of all food that may be eaten, and thou shalt lay it up with thee: and it shall be food for thee and them.

6:21 Du selbst aber nimm dir alle Arten von Nahrungsmitteln, die als Speise genossen werden, und sammle bei dir Vorräte davon, damit sie dir und ihnen zur Nahrung dienen.«

6:22 And Noe did all things which God commanded him.

6:22 Und Noah tat es; er machte alles genau so, wie Gott es ihm geboten hatte.
