26:1 In that day shall this canticle be sung in the land of Juda. Sion the city of our strength a saviour, a wall and a bulwark shall be set therein.

26:1 An jenem Tage wird man dieses Lied im Lande Juda singen: »Eine feste Stadt haben wir; zum Schutz hat er ihr Mauern und Außenwerk geschaffen.

26:2 Open ye the gates, and let the just nation, that keepeth the truth, enter in.

26:2 Öffnet die Tore, damit ein gerechtes Volk einziehe, das die Treue bewahrt!

26:3 The old error is passed away: thou wilt keep peace: peace, because we have hoped in thee.

26:3 Ein festes Herz segnest du mit Heil, mit Heil, weil es voll Vertrauen auf dich ist.

26:4 You have hoped in the Lord for evermore, in the Lord God mighty for ever.

26:4 Vertrauet auf den HERRN für und für, denn an Gott dem HERRN habt ihr einen ewigen Felsen.

26:5 For he shall bring down them that dwell on high, the high city he shall lay low. He shall bring it down even to the ground, he shall pull it down even to the dust.

26:5 Denn niedergeworfen hat er die, welche eine Hochburg bewohnten, eine hochragende Stadt; er hat sie erniedrigt, ja erniedrigt bis zum Erdboden, hat sie niedergestoßen bis in den Staub:

26:6 The foot shall tread it down, the feet of the poor, the steps of the needy.

26:6 zertreten soll sie der Fuß, ja die Füße der Niedrigen, die Tritte der Geringen.«

26:7 The way of the just is right, the path of the just is right to walk in.

26:7 Der Pfad des Gerechten ist ebener Pfad, geradeaus geht die Bahn des Gerechten: du läßt sie eben sein.

26:8 And in the way of thy judgments, O Lord, we have patiently waited for thee: thy name, and thy remembrance are the desire of the soul.

26:8 Auch auf dem Wege deiner Gerichte, HERR, harren wir dein; nach deinem Namen und nach deinem Lobpreis steht das Verlangen unsers Herzens.

26:9 My soul hath desired thee in the night: yea, and with my spirit within me in the morning early I will watch to thee. When thou shalt do thy judgments on the earth, the inhabitants of the world shall learn justice.

26:9 Mein Herz verlangt nach dir in der Nacht, auch sehnt sich mein Geist nach dir in meinem Inneren; denn sobald deine Gerichte die Erde treffen, lernen die Bewohner des Erdkreises Gerechtigkeit.

26:10 Let us have pity on the wicked, but he will not learn justice: in the land of the saints he hath done wicked things, and he shall not see the glory of the Lord.

26:10 Wird dem Gottlosen Gnade zuteil, so lernt er nicht Gerechtigkeit; nein, in einem Lande, wo das Recht gilt, bleibt er doch ein Frevler und sieht nichts von der Erhabenheit des HERRN.

26:11 Lord, let thy hand be exalted, and let them not see: let the envious people see, and be confounded: and let fire devour thy enemies.

26:11 HERR, ist deine Hand auch hocherhoben: sie sehen es nicht; laß sie zu ihrer Beschämung deinen Eifer um dein Volk sehen! Ja, das Zornesfeuer, das deine Widersacher erwartet, möge sie verzehren!

26:12 Lord, thou wilt give us peace: for thou hast wrought all our works for us.

26:12 HERR, du wirst uns Heil schaffen, denn du hast ja auch alle unsere Taten für uns vollbracht.

26:13 O Lord our God, other lords besides thee have had dominion over us, only in thee let us remember thy name.

26:13 HERR, unser Gott, es haben zwar außer dir noch andere als Herren über uns geherrscht, aber dich allein preisen wir, deinen Namen.

26:14 Let not the dead live, let not the giants rise again: therefore hast visited and destroyed them, and hast destroyed all their memory.

26:14 Tote leben nicht wieder auf, Unterweltsbewohner erstehen nicht wieder: zu dem Zwecke hast du sie ja heimgesucht und vernichtet und jede Erinnerung an sie ausgetilgt.

26:15 Thou hast been favourable to the nation, O Lord, thou hast been favourable to the nation: art thou glorified? thou hast removed all the ends of the earth far off.

26:15 Gleichwohl hast du Zuwachs dem Volke verliehen, HERR, ja Zuwachs dem Volke; du hast dich verherrlicht, alle Grenzen des Landes weit hinausgerückt.

26:16 Lord, they have sought after thee in distress, in the tribulation of murmuring thy instruction was with them.

26:16 HERR, in der Bedrängnis haben sie dich gesucht; als deine Züchtigung sie traf, haben sie sich in flüsternde Gebete ergossen.

26:17 As a woman with child, when she draweth near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and crieth out in her pangs: so are we become in thy presence, O Lord.

26:17 Wie eine Schwangere, wenn ihre Stunde da ist, sich windet und aufschreit in ihren Wehen, so ist es auch uns, HERR, ergangen – von dir aus geschah es –:

26:18 We have conceived, and been as it were in labour, and have brought forth wind: we have not wrought salvation on the earth, therefore the inhabitants of the earth have not fallen.

26:18 wir gingen schwanger, wanden uns in Wehen; doch als wir gebaren, war es Wind: Rettung schafften wir dem Lande nicht, und Erdenbewohner kamen nicht ans Tageslicht.

26:19 Thy dead men shall live, my slain shall rise again: awake, and give praise, ye that dwell in the dust: for thy dew is the dew of the light: and the land of the giants thou shalt pull down into ruin.

26:19 Werden wohl deine Toten wieder aufleben? (Auch) meine Leichen? Ja, sie werden auferstehen! Wacht auf und jubelt, die ihr im Staube ruht! Denn ein Tau der Himmelslichter ist dein Tau, und so wird die Erde die Schatten wieder ans Tageslicht bringen.

26:20 Go, my people, enter into thy chambers, shut thy doors upon thee, hide thyself a little for a moment, until the indignation pass away.

26:20 Wohlan, mein Volk, gehe in deine Kammern hinein und schließe deine Türen hinter dir zu! Verbirg dich einen kurzen Augenblick, bis das Zorngericht vorübergegangen ist.

26:21 For behold the Lord will come out of his place, to visit the iniquity of the inhabitant of the earth against him: and the earth shall disclose her blood, and shall cover her slain no more.

26:21 Denn gar bald wird der HERR aus seiner Wohnstätte hervortreten, um die Erdbewohner zur Rechenschaft wegen ihrer Verschuldung zu ziehen; dann wird die Erde das von ihr verschluckte Blut wieder zum Vorschein bringen und die in ihr verscharrten Ermordeten nicht länger verbergen.
