48:1 Hear ye these things, O house of Jacob, you that are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Juda, you who swear by the name of the Lord, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in justice.

48:1 Höret dies, ihr vom Hause Jakob, die ihr nach Israels Namen benannt und aus Judas Leibe hervorgegangen seid, die ihr schwört beim Namen des HERRN und euch zum Gott Israels bekennt – doch nicht in Wahrhaftigkeit und nicht in Gerechtigkeit –;

48:2 For they are called of the holy city, and are established upon the God of Israel: the Lord of hosts is his name.

48:2 denn nach der heiligen Stadt haben sie sich den Namen beigelegt, und auf den Gott Israels stützen sie sich, dessen Name ›HERR der Heerscharen‹ ist:

48:3 The former things of old, I have declared, and they went forth out of my mouth, and I have made them to be heard: I did them suddenly and they came to pass.

48:3 »Die früheren Weissagungen habe ich vordem verkündet, aus meinem Munde sind sie hervorgegangen, und ich habe sie kundgetan; plötzlich habe ich sie vollführt, so daß sie eingetroffen sind.

48:4 For I knew that thou art stubborn, and thy neck is as an iron sinew, and thy forehead as brass.

48:4 Weil ich wußte, daß du hart bist und daß dein Nacken eine Eisenspange und deine Stirn von Erz ist,

48:5 I foretold thee of old, before they came to pass I told thee, lest thou shouldst say: My idols have done these things, and my graven and molten things have commanded them.

48:5 so habe ich es vordem dir kundgetan und es dich hören lassen, bevor es eintraf, damit du nicht sagen könntest: ›Mein Gottesbild hat sie vollbracht, und mein Schnitzbild sowie mein Gußbild hat sie geboten.‹

48:6 See now all the things which thou hast heard: but have you declared them? I have shewn thee new things from that time, and things are kept which thou knowest not:

48:6 Du hast es gehört: betrachte es nun alles! Und ihr – wollt ihr es nicht bezeugen? Von nun an aber lasse ich dich Neues hören, und zwar Geheimgehaltenes, wovon du nichts gewußt hast.

48:7 They are created now, and not of old: and before the day, when thou heardest them not, lest thou shouldst say: Behold I knew them.

48:7 Jetzt erst kommt es zur Ausführung und nicht schon vordem, und vor dem heutigen Tage hast du nichts davon gehört, damit du nicht sagen könntest: ›Ich habe es ja schon gewußt!‹

48:8 Thou hast neither heard, nor known, neither was thy ear opened of old. For I know that transgressing thou wilt transgress, and I have called thee a transgressor from the womb.

48:8 Nein, du hast es weder gehört noch gewußt, noch ist dein Ohr vordem dafür geöffnet gewesen; denn ich weiß, daß du gar treulos bist und daß man dich ›abtrünnig vom Mutterleibe an‹ genannt hat.

48:9 For my name's sake I will remove my wrath far off: and for my praise I will bridle thee, lest thou shouldst perish.

48:9 Um meines Namens willen halte ich meinen Zorn zurück, und um meiner Ehre willen übe ich Schonung dir zugute, daß ich dich nicht ausrotte.

48:10 Behold I have refined thee, but not as silver, I have chosen thee in the furnace of poverty.

48:10 Wisse wohl: ich habe dich (allerdings) geläutert, aber dich nicht als Silber erfunden; ich habe dich geprüft im Glutofen des Leides.

48:11 For my own sake, for my own sake will I do it, that I may not be blasphemed: and I will not give my glory to another.

48:11 Um meinetwillen, um meinetwillen vollführe ich es – denn wie dürfte mein Name entweiht werden! –, und meine Ehre gebe ich keinem andern!«

48:12 Hearken to me, O Jacob, and thou Israel whom I call: I am he, I am the first, and I am the last.

48:12 »Höre auf mich, Jakob, und du, Israel, den ich berufen habe! Ich bin derselbe, ich der Erste und ich auch der Letzte.

48:13 My hand also hath founded the earth, and my right hand hath measured the heavens: I shall call them, and they shall stand together.

48:13 Hat doch meine Hand die Erde gegründet und meine Rechte den Himmel ausgespannt: rufe ich ihnen zu, so stehen sie allesamt da.

48:14 Assemble yourselves together, all you, and hear: who among them hath declared these things? the Lord hath loved him, he will do his pleasure in Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.

48:14 Versammelt euch alle und hört! Wer unter ihnen hat dieses vorausgesagt: ›Er, den der HERR liebt, wird seinen Willen an Babylon vollstrecken und seinen Arm an den Chaldäern wirken lassen‹?

48:15 I, even I have spoken and called him: I have brought him, and his way is made prosperous.

48:15 Ich, ich habe es angekündigt, habe ihn auch berufen; ich habe ihn auftreten lassen, und er wird sein Unternehmen siegreich durchführen.

48:16 Come ye near unto me, and hear this: I have not spoken in secret from the beginning: from the time before it was done, I was there, and now the Lord God hath sent me, and his spirit.

48:16 Tretet heran zu mir, vernehmt dieses! Ich habe von Anfang an nicht im Verborgenen geredet; nein, seit der Zeit, wo es vor sich geht, bin ich dabei gewesen.« Jetzt aber hat Gott der HERR mich gesandt und seinen Geist.

48:17 Thus saith the Lord thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the Lord thy God that teach thee profitable things, that govern thee in the way that thou walkest.

48:17 So hat der HERR gesprochen, dein Erlöser, der Heilige Israels: »Ich, der HERR, dein Gott, bin es, der dich lehrt zu tun, was dir zum Heil dient, der dich auf dem Wege leitet, den du gehen sollst.

48:18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments: thy peace had been as a river, and thy justice as the waves of the sea,

48:18 Ach, daß du auf meine Gebote geachtet hättest! Dann wäre deine Wohlfahrt geworden wie ein Strom und deine Gerechtigkeit wie die Wellen des Meeres;

48:19 And thy seed had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof: his name should not have perished, nor have been destroyed from before my face.

48:19 dann würde deine Volksmenge dem Sande gleichen und deines Leibes Sprößlinge den Sandkörnern, und ihr Name würde nicht ausgerottet und nicht vertilgt werden vor meinem Angesicht hinweg.«

48:20 Come forth out of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, declare it with the voice of joy: make this to be heard, and speak it out even to the ends of the earth. Say: The Lord hath redeemed his servant Jacob.

48:20 Ziehet aus von Babylon hinweg, entflieht aus dem Chaldäerlande! Mit Jubelschall verkündet dies und laßt es laut werden! Laßt die Kunde dringen bis ans Ende der Erde! rufet aus: »Erlöst hat der HERR seinen Knecht Jakob!

48:21 They thirsted not in the desert, when he led them out: he brought forth water out of the rock for them, and he clove the rock, and the waters gushed out.

48:21 Sie haben nicht Durst gelitten, als er sie durch Wüsten führte: Wasser aus dem Felsen ließ er ihnen rieseln und spaltete den Felsen, daß Wasser hervorsprudelte.« –

48:22 There is no peace to the wicked, saith the Lord.

48:22 »Keinen Frieden« – sagt der HERR – »gibt es für die Gottlosen!«
