5:1 I will sing to my beloved the canticle of my cousin concerning his vineyard. My beloved had a vineyard on a hill in a fruitful place.

5:1 Laßt mich doch einmal von meinem Herzensfreunde singen, nämlich das Lied meines Freundes von seinem Weinberg! Einen Weinberg hatte mein Herzensfreund an einer fruchtbaren Anhöhe.

5:2 And he fenced it in, and picked the stones out of it, and planted it with the choicest vines, and built a tower in the midst thereof, and set up a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

5:2 Er grub ihn um, säuberte ihn von Steinen und bepflanzte ihn mit Edelreben; er baute einen Turm mitten in ihm, hieb auch gleich eine Kelterkufe in ihm aus und wartete dann darauf, daß er Trauben hervorbringe; doch er brachte nur Herlinge hervor.

5:3 And now, O ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and ye men of Juda, judge between me and my vineyard.

5:3 Und nun, ihr Bewohner Jerusalems und ihr Männer von Juda, gebt doch ein Urteil ab in der Streitsache zwischen mir und meinem Weinberg!

5:4 What is there that I ought to do more to my vineyard, that I have not done to it? was it that I looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it hath brought forth wild grapes?

5:4 Was hätte man noch mehr für meinen Weinberg tun können, das ich nicht an ihm getan hätte? Warum mußte ich erwarten, daß er Trauben bringen würde, während er doch Herlinge gebracht hat?

5:5 And now I will shew you what I will do to my vineyard. I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be wasted: I will break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down.

5:5 So will ich euch denn jetzt kundtun, was ich mit meinem Weinberge machen will: die Umzäunung will ich von ihm wegnehmen, damit er abgefressen wird, und seine Mauer niederreißen, damit er zertreten wird.

5:6 And I will make it desolate: it shall not be pruned, and it shall not be digged: but briers and thorns shall come up: and I will command the clouds to rain no rain upon it.

5:6 Ich will ihn ganz wüst werden lassen: er soll nicht mehr beschnitten und nicht mehr behackt werden, sondern in Dornen und Disteln soll er aufschießen, und den Wolken will ich gebieten, keinen Regen mehr auf ihn fallen zu lassen. –

5:7 For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel: and the man of Juda, his pleasant plant: and I looked that he should do judgment, and behold iniquity: and do justice, and behold a cry.

5:7 Denn der Weinberg des HERRN der Heerscharen ist das Haus Israel, und die Männer von Juda sind die Pflanzung, an der sein Herz hängt. Er wartete auf Rechtspflege, und siehe da: Blutvergießen! Auf Gerechtigkeit, und siehe da: Wehgeschrei!

5:8 Woe to you that join house to house and lay field to field, even to the end of the place: shall you alone dwell in the midst of the earth?

5:8 Wehe denen, die ein Haus an das andere reihen, Acker an Acker fügen, bis kein Platz mehr übrig ist und ihr die alleinigen Besitzer innerhalb des Landes seid!

5:9 These things are in my ears, saith the Lord of hosts: Unless many great and fair houses shall become desolate, without an inhabitant.

5:9 In meinen Ohren klingt das Wort des HERRN der Heerscharen: »Wahrlich, die vielen Häuser sollen öde werden und, so groß und schön sie sind, unbewohnt stehen!

5:10 For ten acres of vineyard shall yield one little measure, and thirty bushels of seed shall yield three bushels.

5:10 Denn zehn Joch Rebland sollen einen einzigen Eimer geben und ein Malter Aussaat nur einen Scheffel hervorbringen!«

5:11 Woe to you that rise up early in the morning to follow drunkenness, and to drink in the evening, to be inflamed with wine.

5:11 Wehe denen, die sich schon frühmorgens aufmachen, um berauschenden Getränken nachzulaufen, die bis spät in die Nacht hinein sitzen bleiben und sich vom Wein erhitzen lassen!

5:12 The harp, and the lyre, and, the timbrel and the pipe, and wine are in your feasts: and the work of the Lord you regard not, nor do you consider the works of his hands.

5:12 Da gibt es Zithern und Harfen, Handpauken und Flöten und Wein bei ihren Trinkgelagen; aber auf das Walten des HERRN achten sie nicht, und für das Tun seiner Hände haben sie keine Augen.

5:13 Therefore is my people led away captive, because they had not knowledge, and their nobles have perished with famine, and their multitude were dried up with thirst.

5:13 Darum muß mein Volk in die Verbannung wandern ahnungslos, und seine Edlen werden Hunger leiden und seine Volksmenge vor Durst lechzen.

5:14 Therefore hath hell enlarged her soul, and opened her mouth without any bounds, and their strong ones, and their people, and their high and glorious ones shall go down into it.

5:14 Darum öffnet das Totenreich seinen Schlund gar weit und sperrt seinen Rachen ins Maßlose auf, damit hinabfahre Jerusalems Herrlichkeit und sein Getümmel, sein Gewühl und wer lustig darin jubelt.

5:15 And man shall be brought down, and man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be brought low.

5:15 Da werden dann die (gewöhnlichen) Menschen gebeugt und die (vornehmen) Männer gedemütigt werden und die Augen der Hoffärtigen sich senken;

5:16 And the Lord of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and the holy God shall be sanctified in justice.

5:16 aber der HERR der Heerscharen wird durch das Gericht erhaben dastehen und Gott, der Heilige, sich durch Gerechtigkeit als heilig erweisen.

5:17 And the lambs shall feed according to their order, and strangers shall eat the deserts turned into fruitfulness.

5:17 Und Lämmer werden dort weiden, als wäre es ihre Trift, und von den Ödländereien der (ehemals) Reichen werden Ziegen sich nähren.

5:18 Woe to you that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as the rope of a cart.

5:18 Wehe denen, welche die Sündenschuld an den Stricken des Trugs herbeiziehen und die Sündenstrafe wie an Wagenseilen, –

5:19 That say: Let him make haste, and let his work come quickly, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel come, that we may know it.

5:19 die da sagen: »Er beeile doch, er beschleunige sein Werk, damit wir es noch sehen, und es komme doch und verwirkliche sich der Ratschluß des Heiligen Israels, damit wir ihn kennenlernen!«

5:20 Woe to you that call evil good, and good evil: that put darkness for light, and light for darkness: that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.

5:20 Wehe denen, die das Böse gut und das Gute böse nennen, die Finsternis als Licht hinstellen und das Licht als Finsternis, die Bitteres für süß und Süßes für bitter ausgeben!

5:21 Woe to you that are wise in your own eyes, and prudent in your own conceits.

5:21 Wehe denen, die in ihren eigenen Augen weise sind und klug vor sich selbst!

5:22 Woe to you that are mighty to drink wine, and stout men at drunkenness.

5:22 Wehe denen, die Helden im Weintrinken sind und tüchtige Männer im Mischen berauschenden Getränks,

5:23 That justify the wicked for gifts, and take away the justice of the just from him.

5:23 die um eines Geschenks willen den Schuldigen gerechtsprechen und dem Unschuldigen sein Recht vorenthalten!

5:24 Therefore as the tongue of the fire devoureth the stubble, and the heat of the flame consumeth it: so shall their root be as ashes, and their bud shall go up as dust: for they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and have blasphemed the word of the Holy One of Israel.

5:24 Darum, wie des Feuers Zunge Stroh verzehrt und wie dürre Halme in der Flamme zusammensinken, so wird ihre Wurzel wie Moder werden und ihre Blüte wie Staub verfliegen; denn sie haben das Gesetz des HERRN der Heerscharen verworfen und das Wort des Heiligen Israels gelästert.

5:25 Therefore is the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people, and he hath stretched out his hand upon them, and struck them: and the mountains were troubles, and their carcasses became as dung in the midst of the streets. For after this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

5:25 Darum ist der Zorn des HERRN gegen sein Volk entbrannt, und er hat seinen Arm gegen sie ausgestreckt und sie geschlagen, daß die Berge erbebten und ihre Leichen wie Kehricht auf den Straßen lagen. Trotz alledem hat sein Zorn noch nicht nachgelassen, und noch immer ist sein Arm hoch erhoben.

5:26 And he will lift up a sign to the nations afar off, and will whistle to them from the ends of the earth: and behold they shall come with speed swiftly.

5:26 Und er wird den Völkerschaften in weite Ferne eine Signalstange aufpflanzen, und eine wird er vom Ende der Erde herbeilocken; und siehe, eilends, schnell kommt sie heran.

5:27 There is none that shall faint, nor labour among them: they shall not slumber nor sleep, neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken.

5:27 Kein Ermatteter und kein Wankender ist unter ihnen, keiner gönnt sich Schlummer noch Schlaf; keinem geht der Gurt an seinen Hüften auf, und keinem zerreißt der Riemen an seinen Schuhen.

5:28 Their arrows are sharp, and all their bows are bent. The hoofs of their horses shall be like the flint, and their wheels like the violence of a tempest.

5:28 Ihre Pfeile sind geschärft und ihre Bogen sämtlich gespannt; die Hufe ihrer Rosse sind wie Kiesel zu achten und ihre Wagenräder wie der Wirbelwind.

5:29 Their roaring like that of a lion, they shall roar like young lions: yea they shall roar, and take hold of the prey, and they shall keep fast hold of it, and there shall be none to deliver it.

5:29 Ihr Gebrüll ist wie das eines Löwen, und ihr Brüllen wie das der jungen Leuen, die da knurren und die Beute packen und in Sicherheit bringen – keiner ist da, der sie ihm entreißt!

5:30 And they shall make a noise against them that day, like the roaring of the sea; we shall look towards the land, and behold darkness of tribulation, and the light is darkened with the mist thereof.

5:30 Und es tost an jenem Tage über ihm wie tosende Meeresbrandung; und blickt man auf das Land hin, siehe, da ist angstvolle Finsternis, und das Licht ist Nacht geworden durch das Nebeldunkel darüber.
