8:1 And Jesus went unto mount Olivet.

8:1 Jesus aber begab sich an den Ölberg.

8:2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple: and all the people came to him. And sitting down he taught them.

8:2 Am folgenden Morgen jedoch fand er sich wieder im Tempel ein, und das gesamte Volk kam zu ihm; er setzte sich dann und lehrte sie.

8:3 And the scribes and Pharisees bring unto him a woman taken in adultery: and they set her in the midst,

8:3 Da führten die Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer eine Frau herbei, die beim Ehebruch ergriffen worden war, stellten sie in die Mitte

8:4 And said to him: Master, this woman was even now taken in adultery.

8:4 und sagten zu ihm: »Meister, diese Frau ist auf frischer Tat beim Ehebruch ergriffen worden.

8:5 Now Moses in the law commanded us to stone such a one. But what sayest thou?

8:5 Nun hat Mose uns im Gesetz geboten, solche Frauen zu steinigen. Was sagst nun du dazu?«

8:6 And this they said tempting him, that they might accuse him. But Jesus bowing himself down, wrote with his finger on the ground.

8:6 Dies sagten sie aber, um ihn zu versuchen, damit sie einen Grund zur Anklage gegen ihn hätten. Jesus aber bückte sich nieder und schrieb mit dem Finger auf den Erdboden.

8:7 When therefore they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said to them: He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

8:7 Als sie aber ihre Frage an ihn mehrfach wiederholten, richtete er sich auf und sagte zu ihnen: »Wer unter euch ohne Sünde ist, werfe den ersten Stein auf sie!«

8:8 And again stooping down, he wrote on the ground.

8:8 Hierauf bückte er sich aufs neue und schrieb auf dem Erdboden weiter.

8:9 But they hearing this, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, and the woman standing in the midst.

8:9 Als aber jene das gehört hatten, gingen sie einer nach dem andern weg, die Ältesten zuerst bis zu den Letzten, und Jesus blieb allein zurück mit der Frau, die in der Mitte stand.

8:10 Then Jesus lifting up himself, said to her: Woman, where are they that accused thee? Hath no man condemned thee?

8:10 Da richtete Jesus sich auf und fragte sie: »Frau, wo sind sie? Hat keiner dich verurteilt?« Sie antwortete: »Keiner, Herr.«

8:11 Who said: No man, Lord. And Jesus said: Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more.

8:11 Da sagte Jesus: »Auch ich verurteile dich nicht: gehe hin und sündige hinfort nicht mehr!«

8:12 Again therefore, Jesus spoke to: them, saying: I am the light of the world. He that followeth me walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

8:12 Nun redete Jesus aufs neue zu ihnen und sagte: »Ich bin das Licht der Welt: wer mir nachfolgt, wird nicht in der Finsternis wandeln, sondern das Licht des Lebens haben.«

8:13 The Pharisees therefore said to him: Thou givest testimony of thyself. Thy testimony is not true.

8:13 Da sagten die Pharisäer zu ihm: »Du legst Zeugnis über dich selbst ab: dein Zeugnis ist ungültig.«

8:14 Jesus answered and said to them: Although I give testimony of myself, my testimony is true: for I know whence I came and whither I go.

8:14 Jesus gab ihnen zur Antwort: »Auch wenn ich über mich selbst Zeugnis ablege, so ist mein Zeugnis doch gültig, denn ich weiß, woher ich gekommen bin und wohin ich gehe; ihr aber wißt nicht, woher ich komme und wohin ich gehe.

8:15 You judge according to the flesh: I judge not any man.

8:15 Ihr richtet nach dem Fleisch, ich richte überhaupt niemand.

8:16 And if I do judge, my judgment is true: because I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

8:16 Doch auch wenn ich richte, ist mein Urteil wahr; denn ich stehe (mit meinem Zeugnis) nicht allein, sondern mit mir ist der, welcher mich gesandt hat.

8:17 And in your law it is written that the testimony of two men is true.

8:17 Nun steht doch auch in eurem Gesetz geschrieben, daß das Zeugnis zweier Personen wahr ist.

8:18 I am one that give testimony of myself: and the Father that sent me giveth testimony of me.

8:18 Ich lege Zeugnis von mir ab, und der Vater, der mich gesandt hat, legt auch Zeugnis von mir ab.«

8:19 They said therefore to him: Where is thy Father? Jesus answered: Neither me do you know, nor my Father. If you did know me, perhaps you would know my Father also.

8:19 Da fragten sie ihn: »Wo ist (denn) dein Vater?« Jesus antwortete: »Weder mich noch meinen Vater kennt ihr; wenn ihr mich kenntet, würdet ihr auch meinen Vater kennen.«

8:20 These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, teaching in the temple: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.

8:20 Diese Worte sprach er aus, als er beim Opferkasten im Tempel lehrte; und niemand legte Hand an ihn, weil seine Stunde noch nicht gekommen war.

8:21 Again therefore Jesus said to them: I go: and you shall seek me. And you shall die in your sin. Whither I go, you cannot come.

8:21 Aufs neue sagte er dann zu ihnen: »Ich gehe weg; dann werdet ihr mich suchen und in eurer Sünde sterben. Wohin ich gehe, dahin könnt ihr nicht kommen.«

8:22 The Jews therefore said: Will he kill himself, because he said: Whither I go you cannot come?

8:22 Da sagten die Juden: »Will er sich etwa das Leben nehmen, weil er sagt: ›Wohin ich gehe, dahin könnt ihr nicht kommen‹?«

8:23 And he said to them: You are from beneath: I am from above. You are of this world: I am not of this world.

8:23 Da sagte er zu ihnen: »Ihr seid von unten her, ich bin von oben her; ihr seid aus dieser Welt, ich bin nicht aus dieser Welt.

8:24 Therefore I said to you that you shall die in your sins. For if you believe not that I am he, you shall die in your sin.

8:24 Darum habe ich euch gesagt, daß ihr in euren Sünden sterben werdet; denn wenn ihr nicht glaubt, daß ich es bin, so werdet ihr in euren Sünden sterben.«

8:25 They said therefore to him: Who art thou? Jesus said to them: The beginning, who also speak unto you.

8:25 Da fragten sie ihn: »Wer bist du denn?« Jesus antwortete ihnen: »Das, was ich von Anfang an (gesagt habe) und auch jetzt euch sage.

8:26 Many things I have to speak and to judge of you. But he that sent me, is true: and the things I have heard of him, these same I speak in the world.

8:26 Vieles hätte ich über euch noch zu sagen und zu richten; aber der mich gesandt hat, ist wahrhaftig, und ich – was ich von ihm gehört habe, das rede ich zur Welt.«

8:27 And they understood not that he called God his Father.

8:27 Sie verstanden nicht, daß er vom Vater zu ihnen redete.

8:28 Jesus therefore said to them: When you shall have lifted up, the Son of man, then shall you know that I am he and that I do nothing of myself. But as the Father hath taught me, these things I speak.

8:28 Da fuhr nun Jesus fort: »Wenn ihr den Menschensohn erhöht haben werdet, dann werdet ihr erkennen, daß ich es bin und daß ich nichts von mir selbst aus tue, sondern so rede, wie der Vater mich gelehrt hat.

8:29 And he that sent me is with me: and he hath not left me alone. For I do always the things that please him.

8:29 Und der mich gesandt hat, ist mit mir; er hat mich nicht allein gelassen, weil ich allezeit das tue, was ihm wohlgefällig ist.«

8:30 When he spoke these things, many believed in him.

8:30 Als er das sagte, kamen viele zum Glauben an ihn.

8:31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed.

8:31 Nun sagte Jesus zu den Juden, die an ihn gläubig geworden waren: »Wenn ihr in meinem Wort bleibt, so seid ihr in Wahrheit meine Jünger

8:32 And you shall know the truth: and the truth shall make you free.

8:32 und werdet die Wahrheit erkennen, und die Wahrheit wird euch frei machen.«

8:33 They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham: and we have never been slaves to any man. How sayest thou: You shall be free?

8:33 Da entgegneten sie ihm: »Wir sind Abrahams Nachkommenschaft und haben noch niemals jemandem als Knechte gedient; wie kannst du da sagen: ›Ihr werdet frei werden‹?«

8:34 Jesus answered them: Amen, amen, I say unto you that whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

8:34 Jesus antwortete ihnen: »Wahrlich, wahrlich ich sage euch: ein jeder, der Sünde tut, ist ein Knecht der Sünde.

8:35 Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the son abideth for ever.

8:35 Der Knecht aber bleibt nicht für immer im Hause, der Sohn dagegen bleibt für immer darin.

8:36 If therefore the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

8:36 Wenn also der Sohn euch frei gemacht hat, dann werdet ihr wirklich frei sein.«

8:37 I know that you are the children of Abraham: but you seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

8:37 »Ich weiß wohl, daß ihr Abrahams Nachkommenschaft seid; aber ihr sucht mich zu töten, weil mein Wort keinen Eingang bei euch findet.

8:38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you do the things that you have seen with your father.

8:38 Was ich beim Vater gesehen habe, das rede ich; dementsprechend tut auch ihr das, was ihr vom Vater gehört habt.«

8:39 They answered and said to him: Abraham is our father. Jesus saith them: If you be the children of Abraham, do the works of Abraham.

8:39 Sie antworteten ihm mit der Versicherung: »Unser Vater ist Abraham!« Jesus erwiderte ihnen: »Wenn ihr Abrahams Kinder seid, so handelt auch so wie Abraham (gehandelt hat)!

8:40 But now you seek to kill me, a man who have spoken the truth to you, which I have heard of God. This Abraham did not.

8:40 Nun aber geht ihr darauf aus, mich zu töten, einen Mann, der euch die Wahrheit verkündigt hat, wie ich sie von Gott gehört habe: so etwas hat Abraham nicht getan.

8:41 You do the works of your father. They said therefore to him: We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, even God.

8:41 Ihr vollbringt die Werke eures Vaters.« Sie erwiderten ihm: »Wir sind keine unehelichen Kinder; wir haben nur einen einzigen Vater, nämlich Gott.«

8:42 Jesus therefore said to them: If God were your Father, you would indeed love me. For from God I proceeded and came. For I came not of myself: but he sent me.

8:42 Da sagte Jesus zu ihnen: »Wenn Gott euer Vater wäre, dann würdet ihr mich lieben; denn ich bin von Gott ausgegangen und (von ihm) gekommen; ich bin nicht von mir selbst gekommen, sondern er hat mich gesandt.

8:43 Why do you not know my speech? Because you cannot hear my word.

8:43 Wie geht es nun zu, daß ihr meine Art zu reden nicht versteht? Weil ihr nicht imstande seid, das, was meine Worte besagen, auch nur anzuhören.

8:44 You are of your father the devil: and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning: and he stood not in the truth, because truth is not in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.

8:44 Ihr stammt eben vom Teufel als eurem Vater und wollt nach den Gelüsten eures Vaters handeln. Der ist ein Menschenmörder von Anfang an gewesen und steht nicht in der Wahrheit, weil die Wahrheit nicht in ihm ist. Wenn er die Lüge redet, dann redet er aus seinem eigensten Wesen heraus, denn er ist ein Lügner und der Vater von ihr.

8:45 But if I say the truth, you believe me not.

8:45 Weil ich dagegen die Wahrheit rede, schenkt ihr mir keinen Glauben.

8:46 Which of you shall convince me of sin? If I say the truth to you, why do you not believe me:

8:46 Wer von euch kann mich einer Sünde zeihen? Wenn ich die Wahrheit rede, warum schenkt ihr mir keinen Glauben?

8:47 He that is of God heareth the words of God. Therefore you hear them not, because you are not of God.

8:47 Wer aus Gott ist, hört die Worte Gottes; deshalb hört ihr sie nicht, weil ihr nicht von Gott seid.«

8:48 The Jews therefore answered and said to him: Do not we say well that thou art a Samaritan and hast a devil?

8:48 Da gaben ihm die Juden zur Antwort: »Sagen wir nicht mit Recht, daß du ein Samariter und von einem bösen Geist besessen bist?«

8:49 Jesus answered: I have not a devil: but I honour my Father. And you have dishonoured me.

8:49 Jesus antwortete ihnen: »Ich bin von keinem bösen Geist besessen, sondern ehre meinen Vater; doch ihr beschimpft mich.

8:50 But I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

8:50 Ich aber sorge nicht für meine Ehre: es ist einer da, der (für sie) sorgt und Gericht (für sie) hält.

8:51 Amen, amen, I say to you: If any man keep my word, he shall not see death for ever.

8:51 Wahrlich, wahrlich ich sage euch: Wenn jemand mein Wort bewahrt, wird er den Tod in Ewigkeit nicht sehen.«

8:52 The Jews therefore said: Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets: and thou sayest: If any man keep my word, he shall not taste death for ever.

8:52 Da entgegneten ihm die Juden: »Jetzt wissen wir sicher, daß du von einem bösen Geist besessen bist. Abraham ist gestorben und (ebenso) die Propheten, und du behauptest: ›Wenn jemand mein Wort bewahrt, wird er den Tod in Ewigkeit nicht schmecken.‹

8:53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Whom dost thou make thyself?

8:53 Bist du etwa größer als unser Vater Abraham, der doch gestorben ist? Und auch die Propheten sind gestorben. Was machst du aus dir selbst?«

8:54 Jesus answered: If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom you say that he is your God.

8:54 Jesus antwortete: »Wenn ich mich selbst ehrte, so wäre es mit meiner Ehre nichts; nein, mein Vater ist es, der mich ehrt, derselbe, von dem ihr behauptet, er sei euer Gott;

8:55 And you have not known him: but I know him. And if I shall say that I know him not, I shall be like to you, a liar. But I do know him and do keep his word.

8:55 und dabei habt ihr ihn nicht erkannt. Ich aber kenne ihn; und wenn ich sagen wollte, daß ich ihn nicht kenne, so würde ich euch gleich sein, nämlich ein Lügner. Doch ich kenne ihn und bewahre sein Wort.

8:56 Abraham your father rejoiced that he might see my day: he saw it and was glad.

8:56 Euer Vater Abraham hat darüber gejubelt, daß er meinen Tag sehen sollte, und er hat ihn gesehen und sich darüber gefreut.«

8:57 The Jews therefore said to him: Thou art not yet fifty years old. And hast thou seen Abraham?

8:57 Da sagten die Juden zu ihm: »Du bist noch nicht fünfzig Jahre alt und willst Abraham gesehen haben?«

8:58 Jesus said to them: Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham was made, I AM.

8:58 Jesus antwortete ihnen: »Wahrlich, wahrlich ich sage euch: Ehe Abraham (geboren) ward, bin ich.«

8:59 They took up stones therefore to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

8:59 Da hoben sie Steine auf, um sie auf ihn zu werfen; Jesus aber verbarg sich und ging aus dem Tempel hinaus.
