21:1 The Lord said also to Moses: Speak to the priests the sons of Aaron, and thou shalt say for them: Let not a priest incur an uncleanness at the death of his citizens.

21:1 Weiter gebot der HERR dem Mose: »Teile den Priestern, den Söhnen Aarons, folgende Verordnungen mit: (Ein Priester) darf sich unter seinen Volksgenossen an keiner Leiche verunreinigen;

21:2 But only for his kin, such as are near in blood: that is to say, for his father and for his mother, and for his son, and for his daughter, for his brother also:

21:2 nur an seinen nächsten Blutsverwandten, nämlich an seiner Mutter und seinem Vater, an seinem Sohn und seiner Tochter und seinem Bruder,

21:3 And for a maiden sister, who hath had no husband.

21:3 auch an seiner Schwester, wenn sie noch Jungfrau ist und ihm darum nahesteht und noch keinem Manne angehört hat – an dieser darf er sich verunreinigen.

21:4 But not even for the prince of his people shall he do any thing that may make him unclean.

21:4 Er darf sich nicht als Gatte unter seinen Volksgenossen verunreinigen, so daß er dadurch entweiht würde.

21:5 Neither shall they shave their head, nor their beard, nor make incisions in their flesh.

21:5 Sie dürfen sich an ihrem Haupt keine Glatze scheren und den Rand ihres Bartes nicht stutzen und sich keine Einschnitte in ihren Leib machen.

21:6 They shall be holy to their God, and shall not profane his name. For they offer the burnt offering of the Lord, and the bread of their God: and therefore they shall be holy.

21:6 Sie sollen ihrem Gott heilig sein und den Namen ihres Gottes nicht entweihen; denn sie haben die Feueropfer des HERRN, die Speise ihres Gottes, darzubringen; darum sollen sie heilig sein. –

21:7 They shall not take to wife a harlot or a vile prostitute, nor one that has been put away from her husband: because they are consecrated to their God,

21:7 Eine Buhldirne oder eine Entehrte dürfen sie nicht zur Ehefrau nehmen, ebensowenig eine von ihrem Manne verstoßene Frau; denn (der Priester) ist seinem Gott geweiht.

21:8 And offer the loaves of proposition. Let them therefore be holy because I also am holy: the Lord, who sanctify them.

21:8 Darum sollst du ihn für heilig achten, denn er bringt die Speise deines Gottes dar: als heilig soll er dir gelten, denn ich bin heilig, der HERR, der euch heiligt.

21:9 If the daughter of a priest be taken in whoredom and dishonour the name of her father, she shall be burnt with fire.

21:9 Und wenn die Tochter eines Priesters sich durch Unzucht entweiht, so entweiht sie dadurch ihren Vater: im Feuer soll sie verbrannt werden!

21:10 The high priest, that is to say, the priest who is the greatest among his brethren, upon whose head the oil of unction hath been poured; and whose hands have been consecrated for the priesthood; and who hath been vested with the holy vestments. He shall not uncover his head: he shall not rend his garments.

21:10 Der Priester aber, welcher der oberste unter seinen Amtsgenossen ist, auf dessen Haupt das Salböl gegossen worden ist und den man in sein Amt eingesetzt hat, damit er die heiligen Kleider anziehe, darf sein Haupthaar (in der Trauer) nicht auflösen und seine Kleider nicht zerreißen.

21:11 Nor shall he go in at all to any dead person: not even for his father, or his mother, shall he be defiled.

21:11 Er darf auch zu keiner Leiche hineingehen; sogar an seinem Vater und an seiner Mutter darf er sich nicht verunreinigen.

21:12 Neither shall he go out of the holy places, lest he defile the sanctuary of the Lord: because the oil of the holy unction of his God is upon him. I am the Lord.

21:12 Aus dem Heiligtum darf er sich nicht entfernen, damit er das Heiligtum seines Gottes nicht entweiht; denn die Weihe des Salböls seines Gottes befindet sich auf ihm: ich bin der HERR.

21:13 He shall take a virgin unto his wife.

21:13 Zur Ehefrau muß er sich eine Jungfrau nehmen;

21:14 But a widow or one that is divorced, or defied, or a harlot, he shall not take: but a maid of his own people.

21:14 eine Witwe oder eine verstoßene Frau oder eine Entehrte oder eine Buhldirne – diese darf er nicht ehelichen; sondern eine Jungfrau aus seinen Volksgenossen muß er sich zur Frau nehmen,

21:15 He shall not mingle the stock of his kindred with the common people of this nation: for I am the Lord who sanctify him.

21:15 damit er seine Nachkommenschaft unter seinen Volksgenossen nicht entweiht; denn ich bin der HERR, der ihn heiligt.«

21:16 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

21:16 Weiter gebot der HERR dem Mose folgendes:

21:17 Say to Aaron: Whosoever of thy seed throughout their families, hath a blemish, he shall not offer bread to his God.

21:17 »Teile dem Aaron folgende Verordnungen mit: Wenn irgendeiner von deinen Nachkommen in ihren künftigen Geschlechtern einen Leibesfehler an sich hat, so darf er nicht herantreten, um die Speise seines Gottes darzubringen;

21:18 Neither shall he approach to minister to him: If he be blind; if he be lame; if he have a little, or a great, or a crooked nose;

21:18 denn keiner, der ein leibliches Gebrechen an sich hat, darf mir nahen, kein Blinder oder Lahmer, kein im Gesicht Entstellter oder einer, an dem ein Glied zu lang ist;

21:19 If his foot, or if his hand be broken;

21:19 auch keiner, der einen Beinbruch oder einen Armbruch hat,

21:20 If he be crookbacked; or blear eyed; or have a pearl in his eye, or a continual scab, or a dry scurf in his body, or a rupture.

21:20 auch kein Buckliger und kein Zwerg, keiner, der weiße Flecken im Auge hat oder der mit Krätze oder mit Flechten behaftet oder der entmannt ist.

21:21 Whosoever of the seed of Aaron the priest hath a blemish: he shall not approach to offer sacrifices to the Lord, nor bread to his God.

21:21 Keiner von den Nachkommen des Priesters Aaron, der ein Gebrechen an sich hat, darf mir nahen, um die Feueropfer des HERRN darzubringen; hat er ein Gebrechen an sich, so darf er mir nicht nahen, um die Speise seines Gottes darzubringen.

21:22 He shall eat nevertheless of the loaves that are offered in the sanctuary.

21:22 Von der Speise seines Gottes, sowohl von den hochheiligen als auch von den heiligen Gaben, darf er essen;

21:23 Yet so that he enter not within the veil, nor approach to the altar: because he hath a blemish, and he must not defile my sanctuary. I am the Lord who sanctify them.

21:23 doch zu dem (inneren) Vorhang darf er nicht hineingehen und an den Altar nicht treten, weil er ein Gebrechen an sich hat; sonst würde er meine Heiligtümer entweihen; denn ich bin der HERR, der sie heiligt.«

21:24 Moses, therefore spoke to Aaron, and to his sons and to all Israel, all the things that had been commanded him.

21:24 Mose teilte dies dann dem Aaron und dessen Söhnen und allen Israeliten mit.
