5:1 And it came to pass, that when the multitudes pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Genesareth,

5:1 Es begab sich aber (eines Tages), als das Volk ihn umdrängte und das Wort Gottes hörte, während er selbst am See Gennesaret stand,

5:2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them and were washing their nets.

5:2 da sah er zwei Boote am Ufer des Sees liegen; die Fischer aber waren aus ihnen ausgestiegen und wuschen ihre Netze.

5:3 And going into one of the ships that was Simon's, he desired him to draw back a little from the land. And sitting, he taught the multitudes out of the ship.

5:3 Da trat er in eins der Boote, das Simon gehörte, und bat ihn, ein wenig vom Lande abzustoßen; darauf setzte er sich nieder und lehrte die Volksscharen vom Boote aus.

5:4 Now when he had ceased to speak, he said to Simon: Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a draught.

5:4 Als er dann seine Ansprache beendet hatte, sagte er zu Simon: »Fahre auf die Höhe (des Sees) hinaus und werft eure Netze aus, damit ihr einen Zug tut!«

5:5 And Simon answering said to him: Master, we have laboured all the night and have taken nothing: but at thy word I will let down the net.

5:5 Da antwortete Simon: »Meister, die ganze Nacht hindurch haben wir gearbeitet und nichts gefangen; doch auf dein Wort hin will ich die Netze auswerfen.«

5:6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a very great multitude of fishes: and their net broke.

5:6 Als sie das getan hatten, fingen sie eine so große Menge Fische, daß ihre Netze zerreißen wollten.

5:7 And they beckoned to their partners that were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came and filled both the ships, so that they were almost sinking.

5:7 Da winkten sie ihren Genossen, die in dem andern Boot waren, sie möchten kommen und ihnen helfen; die kamen auch, und man füllte beide Boote, so daß sie tiefgingen.

5:8 Which when Simon Peter saw, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying: Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

5:8 Als Simon Petrus das sah, warf er sich vor Jesus auf die Knie nieder und rief aus: »Herr, gehe weg von mir, denn ich bin ein sündiger Mensch!«

5:9 For he was wholly astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken.

5:9 Denn Schrecken hatte ihn und alle, die bei ihm waren, wegen dieses ihres Fischfangs befallen,

5:10 And so were also James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were Simon's partners. And Jesus saith to Simon: Fear not: from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

5:10 ebenso auch den Jakobus und Johannes, die Söhne des Zebedäus, welche Simons Genossen waren. Doch Jesus sagte zu Simon: »Fürchte dich nicht! Von nun an wirst du ein Menschenfischer sein.«

5:11 And having brought their ships to land, leaving all things, they followed him.

5:11 Sie brachten nun die Boote an Land, verließen alles und folgten ihm nach.

5:12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy who, seeing Jesus and falling on his face, besought him saying: Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

5:12 Es begab sich darauf, während er sich in einer der Städte aufhielt, daß ein Mann da war, über und über mit Aussatz behaftet. Als dieser Jesus sah, warf er sich vor ihm auf sein Angesicht nieder und bat ihn mit den Worten: »Herr, wenn du willst, kannst du mich reinigen!«

5:13 And stretching forth his hand, he touched him, saying: I will. Be thou cleansed. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.

5:13 Jesus streckte die Hand aus, faßte ihn an und sagte: »Ich will’s: werde rein!« Da verschwand der Aussatz sogleich von ihm.

5:14 And he charged him that he should tell no man, but: Go, shew thyself to the priest and offer for thy cleansing according as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.

5:14 Jesus gebot ihm dann, niemand etwas davon zu sagen, und gab ihm die Weisung: »Gehe hin, zeige dich dem Priester und bringe für deine Reinigung das Opfer dar, wie Mose es geboten hat, zum Zeugnis für sie!«

5:15 But the fame of him went abroad the more: and great multitudes came together to hear and to be healed by him of their infirmities.

5:15 Aber die Kunde über ihn breitete sich immer weiter aus, und das Volk strömte in großen Scharen zusammen, um ihn zu hören und sich von ihren Krankheiten heilen zu lassen.

5:16 And he retired into the desert; and prayed.

5:16 Er jedoch zog sich in die Einsamkeit zurück und betete dort.

5:17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he sat teaching, that there were also Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, that were come out of every town of Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was to heal them.

5:17 Eines Tages, als er der Lehrtätigkeit oblag, saßen auch Pharisäer und Gesetzeslehrer da, die aus allen Ortschaften Galiläas und Judäas und (besonders) aus Jerusalem gekommen waren; und die Kraft des Herrn war durch ihn wirksam, so daß er Heilungen vollbrachte.

5:18 And behold, men brought in a bed a man who had the palsy: and they sought means to bring him in and to lay him before him.

5:18 Da brachten Männer auf einem Tragbett einen Mann, der gelähmt war, und suchten ihn in das Haus hineinzubringen und vor Jesus niederzusetzen.

5:19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in, because of the multitude, they went up upon the roof and let him down through the tiles with his bed into the midst before Jesus.

5:19 Weil sie aber wegen der Volksmenge keine Möglichkeit fanden, ihn hineinzubringen, stiegen sie auf das Dach und ließen ihn samt dem Tragbett durch die Ziegel hindurch mitten unter die Leute vor Jesus hinab.

5:20 Whose faith when he saw, he said: Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.

5:20 Als dieser ihren Glauben sah, sagte er: »Mensch, deine Sünden sind dir vergeben!«

5:21 And the scribes and Pharisees began to think, saying: Who is this who speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

5:21 Da begannen die Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer sich Gedanken darüber zu machen und sagten: »Wer ist dieser? Er spricht ja Gotteslästerungen aus! Wer kann Sünden vergeben außer Gott allein?«

5:22 And when Jesus knew their thoughts, answering he said to them: What is it you think in your hearts?

5:22 Weil nun Jesus ihre Gedanken durchschaute, redete er sie mit den Worten an: »Was denkt ihr da in euren Herzen?

5:23 Which is easier to say: Thy sins are forgiven thee; or to say: Arise and walk?

5:23 Was ist leichter, zu sagen: ›Deine Sünden sind dir vergeben‹, oder zu sagen: ›Stehe auf und gehe umher‹?

5:24 But that you may know that the Son of man hath the power on earth to forgive sins (he saith to the sick of the palsy), I say to thee to: Arise, take up thy bed and go into thy house.

5:24 Damit ihr aber wißt, daß der Menschensohn Vollmacht hat, auf der Erde Sünden zu vergeben« – hierauf sagte er zu dem Gelähmten: »Ich sage dir: Stehe auf, nimm dein Bett auf dich und gehe heim in dein Haus!«

5:25 And immediately rising up before them, he took up the bed on which he lay: and he went away to his own house, glorifying God.

5:25 Da stand er augenblicklich vor ihren Augen auf, nahm das (Tragbett), auf dem er gelegen hatte, und ging Gott preisend heim in sein Haus.

5:26 And all were astonished: and they glorified God. And they were filled with fear, saying: We have seen wonderful things to-day.

5:26 Da gerieten alle außer sich vor Erstaunen; sie priesen Gott und sagten voller Furcht: »Unglaubliches haben wir heute gesehen!«

5:27 And after these things, he went forth and saw a publican named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said to him: Follow me.

5:27 Hierauf ging er (aus dem Hause) hinaus und sah einen Zöllner namens Levi an der Zollstätte sitzen und sagte zu ihm: »Folge mir nach!«

5:28 And leaving all things, he rose up and followed him.

5:28 Da verließ jener alles, stand auf und folgte ihm nach.

5:29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: And there was a great company of publicans and of others that were at table with them.

5:29 Und Levi richtete ihm zu Ehren ein großes Gastmahl in seinem Hause zu, und eine große Schar von Zöllnern und anderen Leuten waren da, die mit ihnen am Mahl teilnahmen.

5:30 But the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying to his disciples: Why do you eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

5:30 Da sagten die Pharisäer und die zu ihnen gehörenden Schriftgelehrten unwillig zu seinen Jüngern: »Warum eßt und trinkt ihr mit den Zöllnern und Sündern?«

5:31 And Jesus answering, said to them: They that are whole need not the physician: but they that are sick.

5:31 Jesus antwortete ihnen mit den Worten: »Die Gesunden haben keinen Arzt nötig, wohl aber die Kranken;

5:32 I came not to call the just, but sinners to penance.

5:32 ich bin nicht gekommen, Gerechte zu berufen zur Buße, sondern Sünder.«

5:33 And they said to him: Why do the disciples of John fast often and make prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees in like manner; but thine eat and drink?

5:33 Sie aber sagten zu ihm: »Die Jünger des Johannes fasten häufig und verrichten (dabei) Gebete, ebenso auch die (Schüler) der Pharisäer, während die deinigen essen und trinken.«

5:34 To whom he said: Can you make the children of the bridegroom fast whilst the bridegroom is with them?

5:34 Jesus antwortete ihnen: »Könnt ihr etwa von den Hochzeitsgästen verlangen, daß sie fasten, solange der Bräutigam noch bei ihnen weilt?

5:35 But the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them: then shall they fast in those days.

5:35 Es werden aber Tage kommen, wo der Bräutigam ihnen genommen ist: dann, an jenen Tagen, werden sie fasten.«

5:36 And he spoke also a similitude to them: That no man putteth a piece from a new garment upon an old garment: otherwise he both rendeth the new, and the piece taken from the new agreeth not with the old.

5:36 Er legte ihnen aber auch noch ein Gleichnis vor: »Niemand reißt doch von einem neuen Kleid ein Stück Zeug ab und setzt es auf ein altes Kleid, sonst würde er nur das neue (Kleid) zerreißen, und zu dem alten Kleide würde das Stück Zeug von dem neuen (Kleide) doch nicht passen.

5:37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: otherwise the new wine will break the bottles; and it will be spilled and the bottles will be lost.

5:37 Auch füllt niemand neuen Wein in alte Schläuche; sonst sprengt der junge Wein die Schläuche und läuft selbst aus, und auch die Schläuche gehen verloren.

5:38 But new wine must be put into new bottles: and both are preserved.

5:38 Nein, jungen Wein muß man in neue Schläuche füllen.

5:39 And no man drinking old hath presently a mind to new: for he saith: The old is better.

5:39 Und niemand, der alten Wein getrunken hat, mag jungen Wein trinken; denn er sagt: ›Der alte ist bekömmlich.‹«
