18:1 At that hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying: Who, thinkest thou, is the greater in the kingdom of heaven?

18:1 In jener Stunde traten die Jünger zu Jesus mit der Frage: »Wer ist denn der Größte im Himmelreich?«

18:2 And Jesus, calling unto him a little child, set him in the midst of them.

18:2 Da rief er ein Kind herbei, stellte es mitten unter sie

18:3 And said: amen I say to you, unless you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

18:3 und sagte: »Wahrlich ich sage euch: Wenn ihr nicht umkehrt und wie die Kinder werdet, so werdet ihr nimmermehr ins Himmelreich eingehen.

18:4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, he is the greater in the kingdom of heaven.

18:4 Wer sich demnach so erniedrigt wie dieses Kind hier, der ist der Größte im Himmelreich;

18:5 And he that shall receive one such little child in my name, receiveth me.

18:5 und wer ein einziges solches Kind auf meinen Namen hin aufnimmt, der nimmt mich auf.«

18:6 But he that shall scandalize one of these little ones that believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone should be hanged about his neck, and that he should be drowned in the depth of the sea.

18:6 »Wer aber einen von diesen Kleinen, die an mich glauben, ärgert, für den wäre es das beste, daß ihm ein Mühlstein um den Hals gehängt und er ins Meer versenkt würde, wo es am tiefsten ist.

18:7 Woe to the world because of scandals. For it must needs be that scandals come: but nevertheless woe to that man by whom the scandal cometh.

18:7 Wehe der Welt um der Ärgernisse willen! Wohl müssen die Verführungen kommen; doch wehe dem Menschen, durch den das Ärgernis kommt!

18:8 And if thy hand, or thy foot, scandalize thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee. It is better for thee to go into life maimed or lame, than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into everlasting fire.

18:8 Wenn nun deine Hand oder dein Fuß dich ärgert, so haue sie ab und wirf sie von dir! Es ist besser für dich, verstümmelt oder lahm ins Leben einzugehen, als daß du beide Hände oder beide Füße hast und in das ewige Feuer geworfen wirst.

18:9 And if thy eye scandalize thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee. It is better for thee having one eye to enter into life, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.

18:9 Und wenn dein Auge dich ärgert, so reiße es aus und wirf es von dir! Es ist besser für dich, einäugig ins Leben einzugehen, als daß du beide Augen hast und ins Feuer der Hölle geworfen wirst.

18:10 See that you despise not one of these little ones: for I say to you, that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

18:10 Sehet zu, daß ihr keinen von diesen Kleinen geringschätzt! Denn ich sage euch: Ihre Engel im Himmel schauen allezeit das Angesicht meines himmlischen Vaters.

18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

18:11 [Denn der Menschensohn ist gekommen, das Verlorene zu retten.]«

18:12 What think you? If a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them should go astray: doth he not leave the ninety-nine in the mountains, and goeth to seek that which is gone astray?

18:12 »Was meint ihr wohl? Wenn jemand hundert Schafe besitzt und eins von ihnen sich verirrt: wird er da nicht die neunundneunzig auf den Bergen zurücklassen und hingehen, um das verirrte zu suchen?

18:13 And if it so be that he find it: Amen I say to you, he rejoiceth more for that, than for the ninety-nine that went not astray.

18:13 Und wenn es ihm gelingt, es zu finden, wahrlich ich sage euch: Er freut sich über dieses (eine) mehr als über die neunundneunzig, die sich nicht verirrt hatten.

18:14 Even so it is not the will of your Father, who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.

18:14 Ebenso ist es auch der Wille eures himmlischen Vaters, daß keiner von diesen Kleinen verlorengehen soll.«

18:15 But if thy brother shall offend against thee, go, and rebuke him between thee and him alone. If he shall hear thee, thou shalt gain thy brother.

18:15 »Wenn dein Bruder sich verfehlt, so gehe hin und halte es ihm unter vier Augen vor. Hört er auf dich, so hast du deinen Bruder gewonnen;

18:16 And if he will not hear thee, take with thee one or two more: that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may stand.

18:16 hört er aber nicht, so nimm noch einen oder zwei (Brüder) mit dir, damit jede Sache auf Grund der Aussagen von zwei oder drei Zeugen festgestellt wird.

18:17 And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican.

18:17 Will er auf diese (Brüder) nicht hören, so teile es der Gemeinde mit; will er auch auf die Gemeinde nicht hören, so gelte er dir wie ein Heide und ein Zöllner. –

18:18 Amen I say to you, whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, shall be loosed also in heaven.

18:18 Wahrlich ich sage euch: Alles, was ihr auf der Erde bindet, wird auch im Himmel gebunden sein; und was ihr auf der Erde löst, wird auch im Himmel gelöst sein. –

18:19 Again I say to you, that if two of you shall consent upon earth, concerning anything whatsoever they shall ask, it shall be done to them by my Father who is in heaven.

18:19 Weiter sage ich euch: Wenn zwei von euch auf Erden eins werden, um irgend etwas zu bitten, so wird es ihnen von meinem himmlischen Vater zuteil werden;

18:20 For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

18:20 denn wo zwei oder drei auf meinen Namen hin versammelt sind, da bin ich mitten unter ihnen.«

18:21 Then came Peter unto him and said: Lord, how often shall my brother offend against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

18:21 Hierauf trat Petrus an ihn heran und fragte ihn: »Herr, wie oft muß ich meinem Bruder vergeben, wenn er sich gegen mich vergeht? Bis zu siebenmal?«

18:22 Jesus saith to him: I say not to thee, till seven times; but till seventy times seven times.

18:22 Da antwortete ihm Jesus: »Ich sage dir: Nicht bis zu siebenmal, sondern bis siebenzigmal siebenmal.

18:23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened to a king, who would take an account of his servants.

18:23 Darum ist das Himmelreich einem Könige vergleichbar, der mit seinen Knechten abrechnen wollte.

18:24 And when he had begun to take the account, one as brought to him, that owed him ten thousand talents.

18:24 Als er nun mit der Abrechnung begann, wurde ihm einer vorgeführt, der ihm zehntausend Talente schuldig war.

18:25 And as he had not wherewith to pay it, his lord commanded that he should be sold, and his wife and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

18:25 Weil er nun diese Schuld nicht bezahlen konnte, befahl der Herr, man solle ihn samt Weib und Kindern und seinem gesamten Besitz verkaufen und so Ersatz schaffen.

18:26 But that servant falling down, besought him, saying: Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

18:26 Da warf sich der Knecht vor ihm zur Erde nieder und bat ihn mit den Worten: ›Habe Geduld mit mir: ich will dir alles bezahlen.‹

18:27 And the lord of that servant being moved with pity, let him go and forgave him the debt.

18:27 Da hatte der Herr Erbarmen mit diesem Knecht; er gab ihn frei, und die Schuld erließ er ihm auch.

18:28 But when that servant was gone out, he found one of his fellow- servants that owed him an hundred pence: and laying hold of him, he throttled him, saying: Pay what thou owest.

18:28 Als aber dieser Knecht (aus dem Hause des Herrn) hinausgegangen war, traf er einen seiner Mitknechte, der ihm hundert Denare schuldig war; den ergriff er, packte ihn an der Kehle und sagte zu ihm: ›Bezahle, wenn du etwas schuldig bist!‹

18:29 And his fellow-servant falling down, besought him, saying: Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

18:29 Da warf sich sein Mitknecht vor ihm nieder und bat ihn mit den Worten: ›Habe Geduld mit mir: ich will dir’s bezahlen!‹

18:30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he paid the debt.

18:30 Er wollte aber nicht, sondern ging hin und ließ ihn ins Gefängnis werfen, bis er die Schuld bezahlt hätte.

18:31 Now his fellow servants seeing what was done, were very much grieved, and they came, and told their lord all that was done.

18:31 Als nun seine Mitknechte sahen, was da vorgegangen war, wurden sie sehr ungehalten; sie gingen hin und berichteten ihrem Herrn den ganzen Vorfall.

18:32 Then his lord called him: and said to him: Thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all the debt, because thou besoughtest me:

18:32 Da ließ sein Herr ihn vor sich rufen und sagte zu ihm: ›Du böser Knecht! Jene ganze Schuld habe ich dir erlassen, weil du mich darum batest;

18:33 Shouldst not thou then have had compassion also on thy fellow servant, even as I had compassion on thee?

18:33 hättest du da nicht auch Erbarmen mit deinem Mitknecht haben müssen, wie ich Erbarmen mit dir gehabt habe?‹

18:34 And his lord being angry, delivered him to the torturers until he paid all the debt.

18:34 Und voller Zorn übergab sein Herr ihn den Folterknechten, bis er ihm seine ganze Schuld bezahlt hätte.

18:35 So also shall my heavenly Father do to you, if you forgive not every one his brother from your hearts.

18:35 Ebenso wird auch mein himmlischer Vater mit euch verfahren, wenn ihr nicht ein jeder seinem Bruder von Herzen vergebt.«
