3:1 As to the rest, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not wearisome, but to you is necessary.

3:1 Im übrigen, meine Brüder, freuet euch im Herrn! Euch (nochmals) dasselbe zu schreiben, verursacht mir keine Beschwerde, euch aber verleiht es Festigkeit.

3:2 Beware of dogs: beware of evil workers: beware of the concision.

3:2 Seht euch die Hunde an, seht euch die bösen Arbeiter an, seht euch die (Männer der) Verschneidung an!

3:3 For we are the circumcision, who in spirit serve God and glory in Christ Jesus, not having confidence in the flesh.

3:3 Denn wir sind die (rechte) Beschneidung, die wir Gott im Geiste dienen und unsern Ruhm in Christus Jesus suchen und unser Vertrauen nicht auf das Fleisch setzen,

3:4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other thinketh he may have confidence in the flesh, I more:

3:4 wiewohl ich persönlich mich zuversichtlich auch auf das Fleisch berufen kann. Wenn irgendein anderer sein Vertrauen auf das Fleisch setzen zu dürfen glaubt, so kann ich es erst recht:

3:5 Being circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews. According to the law, a Pharisee:

3:5 Ich bin am achten Tage beschnitten worden, bin aus dem Volk Israel gebürtig, aus dem Stamme Benjamin, ein Hebräer von Hebräern, nach meiner Stellung zum Gesetz ein Pharisäer,

3:6 According to zeal, persecuting the church of God: According to the justice that is in the law, conversing without blame.

3:6 in Hinsicht auf den Eifer ein Verfolger der Gemeinde, in Hinsicht auf die Gerechtigkeit, die im Gesetz verlangt wird, untadelig erfunden.

3:7 But the things that were gain to me, the same I have counted loss for Christ.

3:7 Doch das, was ich (früher) für Gewinn hielt, das habe ich um Christi willen für Verlust zu achten gelernt;

3:8 Furthermore, I count all things to be but loss for the excellent knowledge of Jesus Christ, my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and count them but as dung, that I may gain Christ.

3:8 ja, ich achte sogar unbedingt alles für Schaden gegenüber der unendlich wertvolleren Erkenntnis Christi Jesu, meines Herrn, um dessen willen ich das alles preisgegeben habe und es geradezu für Kehricht halte, damit ich nur Christus gewinne

3:9 And may be found in him, not having my justice, which is of the law, but that which is of the faith of Christ Jesus, which is of God: justice in faith.

3:9 und in ihm als ein solcher erfunden werde, der nicht seine eigene Gerechtigkeit besitzt, die aus dem Gesetz gewonnen wird, sondern die Gerechtigkeit, die durch den Glauben an Christus vermittelt wird, die Gerechtigkeit aus Gott aufgrund des Glaubens.

3:10 That I may know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings: being made conformable to his death,

3:10 Denn ich möchte ihn erkennen und die Kraft seiner Auferstehung und die Teilnahme an seinen Leiden, indem ich seinem Tode gleichgestaltet werde,

3:11 If by any means I may attain to the resurrection which is from the dead.

3:11 ob ich wohl zur Auferstehung aus den Toten gelangen möchte.

3:12 Not as though I had already attained, or were already perfect: but I follow after, if I may by any means apprehend, wherein I am also apprehended by Christ Jesus.

3:12 Nicht als ob ich es schon ergriffen hätte oder schon zur Vollendung gelangt wäre; ich jage ihm aber nach, ob ich’s wohl ergreifen möchte, weil ich ja auch von Christus Jesus ergriffen worden bin.

3:13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended. But one thing I do: Forgetting the things that are behind and stretching forth myself to those that are before,

3:13 Liebe Brüder, ich denke von mir noch nicht, daß ich’s ergriffen habe; eins aber (tue ich): ich vergesse, was hinter mir liegt, und strecke mich nach dem aus, was vor mir liegt,

3:14 I press towards the mark, to the prize of the supernal vocation of God in Christ Jesus.

3:14 und jage, das vorgesteckte Ziel im Auge, nach dem Siegespreis, den die in Christus Jesus ergangene himmlische Berufung Gottes in Aussicht stellt.

3:15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing you be otherwise minded, this also God will reveal to you,

3:15 Wir alle nun, die wir zielbewußt sind, wollen hierauf unsern Sinn gerichtet halten, und wenn ihr über irgend etwas anderer Meinung seid, so wird Gott euch auch darüber Klarheit verleihen;

3:16 Nevertheless, whereunto we are come, that we be of the same mind, let us also continue in the same rule.

3:16 nur laßt uns nach derselben Überzeugung, zu der wir bereits gelangt sind, unbeirrt weiterwandeln!

3:17 Be ye followers of me, brethren: and observe them who walk so as you have our model.

3:17 Folgt meinem Beispiel allesamt nach, liebe Brüder, und richtet euren Blick auf die, welche so wandeln, wie ihr uns zum Vorbild habt.

3:18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often (and now tell you weeping) that they are enemies of the cross of Christ:

3:18 Denn gar manche wandeln – ich habe es euch von ihnen schon oft gesagt und wiederhole es jetzt sogar mit Tränen – als die Feinde des Kreuzes Christi:

3:19 Whose end is destruction: whose God is their belly: and whose glory is in their shame: who mind earthly things.

3:19 ihr Ende ist das Verderben, ihr Gott ist der Bauch, und ihre Ehre besteht in ihrer Schande, ihr Sinnen ist nur auf das Irdische gerichtet.

3:20 But our conversation is in heaven: from whence also we look for the Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ,

3:20 Unser Bürgertum dagegen ist im Himmel, von wo wir auch den Herrn Jesus Christus als Retter erwarten,

3:21 Who will reform the body of our lowness, made like to the body of his glory, according to the operation whereby also he is able to subdue all things unto himself.

3:21 der unsern niedrigen Leib umwandeln wird zur Gleichgestalt mit seinem Herrlichkeitsleibe vermöge der Kraft, mit der er auch alle Dinge sich zu unterwerfen vermag.
