106:1 Give glory to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

106:1 Halleluja! Preiset den HERRN, denn er ist freundlich, ja ewiglich währt seine Gnade!

106:2 Who shall declare the powers of the Lord? who shall set forth all his praises?

106:2 Wer kann des HERRN Machttaten gebührend preisen und kundtun all seinen Ruhm?

106:3 Blessed are they that keep judgment, and do justice at all times.

106:3 Wohl denen, die am Recht festhalten, und dem, der Gerechtigkeit übt zu jeder Zeit!

106:4 Remember us, O Lord, in the favour of thy people: visit us with thy salvation.

106:4 Gedenke meiner, o HERR, mit der Liebe zu deinem Volk, nimm dich meiner an mit deiner Hilfe,

106:5 That we may see the good of thy chosen, that we may rejoice in the joy of thy nation: that thou mayst be praised with thy inheritance.

106:5 daß ich schau’ meine Lust am Glück deiner Erwählten, an der Freude deines Volkes Anteil habe und glücklich mich preise mit deinem Eigentumsvolke!

106:6 We have sinned with our fathers: we have acted unjustly, we have wrought iniquity.

106:6 Wir haben gesündigt gleich unsern Vätern, wir haben gefehlt und gottlos gehandelt.

106:7 Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt: they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies: And they provoked to wrath going up to the sea, even the Red Sea.

106:7 Unsre Väter in Ägypten achteten nicht auf deine Wunder, gedachten nicht der Fülle deiner Gnadenerweise, waren widerspenstig gegen den Höchsten schon am Schilfmeer;

106:8 And he saved them for his own name's sake: that he might make his power known.

106:8 dennoch half er ihnen um seines Namens willen, um seine Heldenkraft zu erweisen.

106:9 And he rebuked the Red Sea and it was dried up: and he led them through the depths, as in a wilderness.

106:9 Er schalt das Schilfmeer: da ward es trocken, und er ließ sie ziehn durch die Fluten wie über die Trift.

106:10 And he saved them from the hand of them that hated them: and he redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

106:10 So rettete er sie aus der Hand des Verfolgers und erlöste sie aus der Gewalt des Feindes:

106:11 And the water covered them that afflicted them: there was not one of them left.

106:11 die Fluten bedeckten ihre Bedränger, nicht einer von ihnen blieb übrig.

106:12 And they believed his words: and they sang his praises.

106:12 Da glaubten sie an seine Worte, besangen seinen Ruhm.

106:13 They had quickly done, they forgot his works: and they waited not for his counsel.

106:13 Doch schnell vergaßen sie seine Taten und warteten seinen Ratschluß nicht ab;

106:14 And they coveted their desire in the desert: and they tempted God in the place without water.

106:14 sie fröhnten ihrem Gelüst in der Wüste und versuchten Gott in der Einöde:

106:15 And he gave them their request: and sent fulness into their souls.

106:15 da gewährte er ihnen ihr Verlangen, sandte aber die Seuche gegen ihr Leben.

106:16 And they provoked Moses in the camp, Aaron the holy one of the Lord.

106:16 Dann wurden sie eifersüchtig auf Mose im Lager, auf Aaron, den Geweihten des HERRN:

106:17 The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan: and covered the congregation of Abiron.

106:17 da tat die Erde sich auf und verschlang Dathan und begrub die ganze Rotte Abirams,

106:18 And a fire was kindled in their congregation: the flame burned the wicked.

106:18 Feuer verbrannte ihre Rotte, Flammen verzehrten die Frevler.

106:19 They made also a calf in Horeb: and they adored the graven thing.

106:19 Sie machten sich ein Kalb am Horeb und warfen vor einem Gußbild sich nieder

106:20 And they changed their glory into the likeness of a calf that eateth grass.

106:20 und vertauschten so die Herrlichkeit ihres Gottes mit dem Bildnis eines Stieres, der Gras frißt.

106:21 They forgot God, who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt,

106:21 Sie hatten Gott, ihren Retter, vergessen, der große Dinge getan in Ägypten,

106:22 Wondrous works in the land of Cham: terrible things in the Red Sea.

106:22 Wunderzeichen im Lande Hams, furchtbare Taten am Schilfmeer.

106:23 And he said that he would destroy them: had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach: To turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.

106:23 Da gedachte er sie zu vertilgen, wenn nicht Mose, sein Auserwählter, mit Fürbitte vor ihn hingetreten wäre, um seinen Grimm vom Vernichten abzuwenden.

106:24 And they set at nought the desirable land. They believed not his word,

106:24 Sodann verschmähten sie das herrliche Land und schenkten seiner Verheißung keinen Glauben,

106:25 And they murmured in their tents: they hearkened not to the voice of the Lord.

106:25 sondern murrten in ihren Zelten, gehorchten nicht der Weisung des HERRN.

106:26 And he lifted up his hand over them: to overthrow them in the desert;

106:26 Da erhob er seine Hand gegen sie zum Schwur, sie in der Wüste niederzuschlagen,

106:27 And to cast down their seed among the nations, and to scatter them in the countries.

106:27 ihre Nachkommen unter die Heiden niederzuwerfen und sie rings zu zerstreuen in die Länder.

106:28 They also were initiated to Beelphegor: and ate the sacrifices of the dead.

106:28 Dann hängten sie sich an den Baal-Peor und aßen Opferfleisch der toten (Götzen)

106:29 And they provoked him with their inventions: and destruction was multiplied among them.

106:29 und erbitterten ihn durch ihr ganzes Tun. Als nun ein Sterben unter ihnen ausbrach,

106:30 Then Phinees stood up, and pacified him: and the slaughter ceased.

106:30 trat Pinehas auf und hielt Gericht: da wurde dem Sterben Einhalt getan.

106:31 And it was reputed to him unto justice, to generation and generation for evermore.

106:31 Das wurde ihm angerechnet zur Gerechtigkeit von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht in Ewigkeit. –

106:32 They provoked him also at the waters of contradiction: and Moses was afflicted for their sakes:

106:32 Dann erregten sie Gottes Zorn am Haderwasser, und Mose erging es übel um ihretwillen;

106:33 Because they exasperated his spirit. And he distinguished with his lips.

106:33 denn weil sie dem Geiste Gottes widerstrebten, hatte er unbedacht mit seinen Lippen geredet.

106:34 They did not destroy the nations of which the Lord spoke unto them.

106:34 Sie vertilgten auch die Völker nicht, von denen der HERR es ihnen geboten,

106:35 And they were mingled among the heathens, and learned their works:

106:35 sondern traten mit den Heiden in Verkehr und gewöhnten sich an deren (böses) Tun

106:36 And served their idols, and it became a stumblingblock to them.

106:36 und dienten ihren Götzen: die wurden ihnen zum Fallstrick.

106:37 And they sacrificed their sons, and their daughters to devils.

106:37 Ja, sie opferten ihre Söhne und ihre Töchter den bösen Geistern

106:38 And they shed innocent blood: the blood of their sons and of their daughters which they sacrificed to the idols of Chanaan. And the land was polluted with blood,

106:38 und vergossen unschuldig Blut [das Blut ihrer Söhne und Töchter, die sie den Götzen Kanaans opferten]: so wurde das Land durch Blutvergießen entweiht.

106:39 And was defiled with their works: and they went aside after their own inventions.

106:39 Sie wurden unrein durch ihr Verhalten und verübten Abfall durch ihr Tun. –

106:40 And the Lord was exceedingly angry with his people: and he abhorred his inheritance.

106:40 Da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN gegen sein Volk, und Abscheu fühlte er gegen sein Erbe;

106:41 And he delivered them into the hands of the nations: and they that hated them had dominion over them.

106:41 er ließ sie in die Hand der Heiden fallen, so daß ihre Hasser über sie herrschten;

106:42 And their enemies afflicted them: and they were humbled under their hands:

106:42 ihre Feinde bedrängten sie hart, so daß sie sich beugen mußten unter deren Hand.

106:43 Many times did he deliver them. But they provoked him with their counsel: and they were brought low by their iniquities.

106:43 Oftmals zwar befreite er sie, doch sie blieben widerspenstig gegen seinen Ratschluß und sanken immer tiefer durch ihre Schuld.

106:44 And he saw when they were in tribulation: and he heard their prayer.

106:44 Er aber nahm sich ihrer Drangsal an, sooft er ihr Wehgeschrei hörte,

106:45 And he was mindful of his covenant: and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.

106:45 und gedachte seines Bundes ihnen zugut, fühlte Mitleid nach seiner großen Güte

106:46 And he gave them unto mercies, in the sight of all those that had made them captives.

106:46 und ließ sie Erbarmen finden bei allen, die sie gefangen hielten.

106:47 Save us, O Lord, our God: and gather us from among the nations: That we may give thanks to thy holy name, and may glory in thy praise.

106:47 O hilf uns, HERR, unser Gott, und bring uns wieder zusammen aus den Heiden, damit wir deinem heiligen Namen danken, uns glücklich preisen, deinen Ruhm zu künden! * * *

106:48 Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say: So be it, so be it.

106:48 Gepriesen sei der HERR, der Gott Israels, von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit! Und alles Volk sage »Amen!« Halleluja!
