89:1 Ein Lehrgedicht von Ethan, dem Esrahiten.

89:1 The mercies of the Lord I will sing for ever. I will shew forth thy truth with my mouth to generation and generation.

89:2 Die Gnadenerweise des HERRN will ich allzeit besingen, bis zum fernsten Geschlecht deine Treue laut verkünden.

89:2 For thou hast said: Mercy shall be built up for ever in the heavens: thy truth shall be prepared in them.

89:3 Denn du, Herr, hast verheißen: »Auf ewig soll der Gnadenbund aufgebaut sein«

• fest wie den Himmel hast du deine Treue gegründet –:

89:3 I have made a covenant with my elect: I have sworn to David my servant:

89:4 »Ich habe einen Bund geschlossen mit meinem Erwählten, habe David, meinem Knecht, geschworen:

89:4 Thy seed will I settle for ever. And I will build up thy throne unto generation and generation.

89:5 ›Deinem Geschlecht will ich ewige Dauer verleihen und aufbaun deinen Thron für alle Zeiten.‹« SELA.

89:5 The heavens shall confess thy wonders, O Lord: and thy truth in the church of the saints.

89:6 Da priesen die Himmel deine Wundertat, o HERR, dazu deine Treue in der Versammlung der Heiligen.

89:6 For who in the clouds can be compared to the Lord: or who among the sons of God shall be like to God?

89:7 Denn wer in der Wolkenhöhe kommt dem HERRN gleich, ist dem HERRN vergleichbar unter den Gottessöhnen,

89:7 God, who is glorified in the assembly of the saints: great and terrible above all them that are about him.

89:8 dem Gott, der gefürchtet ist im Kreise der Heiligen und furchtbar über alle um ihn her?

89:8 O Lord God of hosts, who is like to thee? thou art mighty, O Lord, and thy truth is round about thee.

89:9 HERR, du Gott der Heerscharen, wer ist dir gleich? Stark bist du, HERR, und deine Treue ist rings um dich her.

89:9 Thou rulest the power of the sea: and appeasest the motion of the waves thereof.

89:10 Du herrschest über das Ungestüm des Meeres: erheben sich seine Wogen – du besänftigst sie.

89:10 Thou hast humbled the proud one, as one that is slain: with the arm of thy strength thou hast scattered thy enemies.

89:11 Du hast Rahab zermalmt wie einen Durchbohrten, deine Feinde mit deinem starken Arm zerstreut.

89:11 Thine are the heavens, and thine is the earth: the world and the fulness thereof thou hast founded:

89:12 Dein ist der Himmel, dein auch die Erde, der Erdkreis und seine Fülle – du hast sie gegründet;

89:12 The north and the sea thou hast created. Thabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name:

89:13 Norden und Süden – du hast sie geschaffen, der Thabor und Hermon bejubeln deinen Namen.

89:13 Thy arm is with might. Let thy hand be strengthened, and thy right hand exalted:

89:14 Du hast einen Arm voll Heldenkraft: stark ist deine Hand, deine Rechte hoch erhoben.

89:14 Justice and judgment are the preparation of thy throne. Mercy and truth shall go before thy face:

89:15 Gerechtigkeit und Recht sind deines Thrones Stützen, Gnade und Treue gehen vor dir her.

89:15 Blessed is the people that knoweth jubilation. They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance:

89:16 Wohl dem Volk, das zu jubeln versteht, das, o HERR, im Licht deines Angesichts wandelt:

89:16 And in thy name they shall rejoice all the day, and in thy justice they shall be exalted.

89:17 ob deinem Namen frohlocken sie allezeit, ob deiner Gerechtigkeit sind sie hochgemut.

89:17 For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy good pleasure shall our horn be exalted.

89:18 Denn du bist ihr Ruhm und ihre Stärke, und durch deine Gnade ragt hoch unser Horn;

89:18 For our protection is of the Lord, and of our king the holy one of Israel.

89:19 denn dem HERRN gehört unser Schild und dem Heiligen Israels unser König.

89:19 Then thou spokest in a vision to thy saints, and saidst: I have laid help upon one that is mighty, and have exalted one chosen out of my people.

89:20 Damals hast du in einem Gesicht zu deinem Frommen gesprochen: »Ich habe die Hilfe einem Helden übertragen, einen Auserwählten über das Volk erhöht:

89:20 I have found David my servant: with my holy oil I have anointed him.

89:21 ich habe David als meinen Knecht gefunden, mit meinem heiligen Öl ihn gesalbt,

89:21 For my hand shall help him: and my arm shall strengthen him.

89:22 damit meine Hand beständig mit ihm sei und mein Arm ihm Stärke verleihe.

89:22 The enemy shall have no advantage over him: nor the son of iniquity have power to hurt him.

89:23 Kein Feind soll ihn überlisten und kein Ruchloser ihn überwältigen;

89:23 And I will cut down his enemies before his face; and them that hate him I will put to flight.

89:24 nein, seine Gegner will ich vor ihm zerschmettern, und die ihn hassen, will ich niederschlagen.

89:24 And my truth and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.

89:25 Doch mit ihm soll meine Treue und Gnade sein, durch meinen Namen soll sein Horn hoch ragen;

89:25 And I will set his hand in the sea; and his right hand in the rivers.

89:26 ich will das Meer unter seine Hand tun und seine Rechte auf die Ströme legen.

89:26 He shall cry out to me: Thou art my father: my God, and the support of my salvation.

89:27 Er soll zu mir rufen: ›Mein Vater bist du, mein Gott und der Fels meines Heils!‹

89:27 And I will make him my firstborn, high above the kings of the earth.

89:28 So will auch ich ihn zum Erstgeborenen machen, zum höchsten unter den Königen der Erde.

89:28 I will keep my mercy for him for ever: and my covenant faithful to him.

89:29 Für immer will ich ihm meine Gnade bewahren, und mein Bund soll fest ihm bleiben;

89:29 And I will make his seed to endure for evermore: and his throne as the days of heaven.

89:30 für immer will ich sein Geschlecht erhalten und seinen Thron, solange der Himmel steht.

89:30 And if his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments:

89:31 Wenn seine Söhne mein Gesetz verlassen und nicht in meinen Rechten wandeln,

89:31 If they profane my justices: and keep not my commandments:

89:32 wenn sie meine Satzungen entweihen und meine Gebote nicht beachten:

89:32 I will visit their iniquities with a rod and their sins with stripes.

89:33 so werde ich zwar mit der Rute ihren Abfall strafen und ihre Übertretung mit Schlägen,

89:33 But my mercy I will not take away from him: nor will I suffer my truth to fail.

89:34 doch meine Gnade will ich ihm nicht entziehen und meine Treue nimmer verleugnen;

89:34 Neither will I profane my covenant: and the words that proceed from my mouth I will not make void.

89:35 ich werde meinen Bund nicht entweihen und den Ausspruch meiner Lippen nicht ändern.

89:35 Once have I sworn by my holiness: I will not lie unto David:

89:36 Ein für allemal hab’ ich bei meiner Heiligkeit geschworen

• niemals werde ich David belügen –:

89:36 His seed shall endure for ever.

89:37 ›Sein Geschlecht soll ewig bestehn, sein Thron wie die Sonne vor mir,

89:37 And his throne as the sun before me: and as the moon perfect for ever, and a faithful witness in heaven.

89:38 wie der Mond soll für immer er bleiben‹: der Zeuge in Wolkenhöhen ist treu!« SELA.

89:38 But thou hast rejected and despised: thou hast been angry with my anointed.

89:39 Und dennoch hast du verworfen und verstoßen, hast Zorn gegen deinen Gesalbten betätigt;

89:39 Thou hast overthrown the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his sanctuary on the earth.

89:40 du hast den Bund mit deinem Knecht gebrochen, seine Krone entweiht und zu Boden geschleudert;

89:40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges: thou hast made his strength fear.

89:41 all seine Mauern hast du eingerissen, seine festen Plätze in Trümmer gelegt.

89:41 All that pass by the way have robbed him: he is become a reproach to his neighbours.

89:42 Es plündern ihn alle, die des Weges ziehen, seinen Nachbarn ist er zum Spott geworden.

89:42 Thou hast set up the right hand of them that oppress him: thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.

89:43 Du hast den Arm seiner Dränger hoch erhoben und all seine Feinde mit Freude erfüllt;

89:43 Thou hast turned away the help of his sword; and hast not assisted him in battle.

89:44 auch hast du rückwärts gewandt sein scharfes Schwert und im Krieg ihn nicht aufrecht gehalten (siegreich erhalten);

89:44 Thou hast made his purification to cease: and thou hast cast his throne down to the ground.

89:45 du hast seinem Glanz ein Ende gemacht und seinen Thron zu Boden gestürzt;

89:45 Thou hast shortened the days of his time: thou hast covered him with confusion.

89:46 du hast die Tage seiner Jugend verkürzt, hast ihn mit Schande bedeckt. SELA.

89:46 How long, O Lord, turnest thou away unto the end? shall thy anger burn like fire?

89:47 Bis wann, HERR, willst du dich ganz verbergen? Bis wann soll lodern wie Feuer dein Zorn?

89:47 Remember what my substance is: for hast thou made all the children of men in vain?

89:48 Bedenke, wie kurz meine Lebenszeit ist, wie vergänglich du alle Menschenkinder geschaffen!

89:48 Who is the man that shall live, and not see death: that shall deliver his soul from the hand of hell?

89:49 Wo ist ein Mensch, der leben bleibt und den Tod nicht sieht, seine Seele errettet vor des Totenreichs Macht?

89:49 Lord, where are thy ancient mercies, according to what thou didst swear to David in thy truth?

89:50 Wo sind deine früheren Gnadenverheißungen, Allherr, die du David zugeschworen in deiner Treue?

89:50 Be mindful, O Lord, of the reproach of thy servants (which I have held in my bosom) of many nations:

89:51 Gedenke, Allherr, der Schmach deiner Knechte, daß ich tragen muß in meinem Busen den Hohn von all den vielen Völkern,

89:51 Wherewith thy enemies have reproached, O Lord; wherewith they have reproached the change of thy anointed.

89:52 womit deine Feinde, o HERR, geschmäht uns haben, womit geschmäht sie haben die Fußstapfen deines Gesalbten! * * *

89:52 Blessed be the Lord for evermore. So be it. So be it.

89:53 Gepriesen sei der HERR in Ewigkeit! Amen, ja Amen!
