6:1 Woe to you that are wealthy in Sion, and to you that have confidence in the mountain of Samaria: ye great men, heads of the people, that go in with state into the house of Israel.

6:1 Wehe euch Sorglosen auf dem Zion und euch Zuversichtlichen auf dem Berge von Samaria, euch Adligen des Erstlings unter den Völkern, an welche das Haus Israel sich zu wenden pflegt!

6:2 Pass ye over to Chalane, and see, and go from thence into Emath the great: and go down into Geth of the Philistines, and to all the best kingdoms of these: if their border be larger than your border.

6:2 Geht doch nach Kalne hinüber und seht es euch an, und wandert von dort weiter nach Groß-Hamath und steigt nach Gath im Philisterlande hinab: seid ihr besser als diese Reiche, oder ist euer Gebiet größer als das ihrige?

6:3 You that are separated unto the evil day: and that approach to the throne of iniquity;

6:3 (Wehe denen,) die den Tag des Unheils fern wähnen und doch den Stuhl der Gewalttat nahe heranrücken!

6:4 You that sleep upon beds of ivory, and are wanton on your couches: that eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the herd;

6:4 Die da auf Lagern von Elfenbein liegen und auf ihren Ruhebetten sich ausstrecken! Die da Lämmer aus der Herde weg schmausen und Kälber mitten aus dem Maststall!

6:5 You that sing to the sound of the psaltery: they have thought themselves to have instruments of music like David;

6:5 Die zum Klang der Harfe phantasieren und sich Musikinstrumente wie David erdenken!

6:6 That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best ointments: and they are not concerned for the affliction of Joseph.

6:6 Die den Wein aus Humpen trinken und mit den allerfeinsten Ölen sich salben! Die sich freuen über Lodabar, aber sich nicht härmen um den Untergang Josephs!

6:7 Wherefore now they shall go captive at the head of them that go into captivity: and the faction of the luxurious ones shall be taken away.

6:7 Darum werden sie nunmehr an der Spitze der Gefangenen in die Gefangenschaft wandern: da wird denn das Jauchzen der träge Hingelagerten ein Ende haben.

6:8 The Lord God hath sworn by his own soul, saith the Lord the God of hosts: I detest the pride of Jacob, and I hate his houses, and I will deliver up the city with the inhabitants thereof.

6:8 »Geschworen hat Gott der HERR bei sich selbst« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN, des Gottes der Heerscharen –: »Ich verabscheue Jakobs Prunk und hasse seine Paläste und gebe die Stadt preis samt allem, was in ihr ist.«

6:9 And if there remain ten men in one house, they also shall die.

6:9 Da wird es geschehen, wenn zehn Männer in einem Hause übriggeblieben sind, so sollen sie auch sterben.

6:10 And he shall answer: There is an end. And he shall say to him: Hold thy peace, and mention not the name of the Lord.

6:10 Wenn dann einen (der Gestorbenen) sein nächster Verwandter, der ihn zu bestatten hat, aufhebt, um die Gebeine aus dem Hause hinauszuschaffen, und an den, der sich im hintersten Raume des Hauses befindet, die Frage richtet: »Ist noch jemand bei dir?«, so wird er antworten: »Niemand«, aber fortfahren: »Still! Denn der Name Gottes des HERRN darf nicht ausgesprochen werden.«

6:11 For behold the Lord hath commanded, and he will strike the greater house with breaches, and the lesser house with clefts.

6:11 Denn wisset wohl: der HERR gebietet, und er zerschlägt die großen Häuser in Trümmer und die kleinen Häuser in Stücke. –

6:12 Can horses run upon the rocks, or can any one plough with buffles? for you have turned judgment into bitterness, and the fruit of justice into wormwood.

6:12 Rennen wohl Rosse auf Felsen? Oder pflügt man darauf mit Rindern, daß ihr das Recht in Gift verwandelt und die Frucht der Gerechtigkeit in Wermut? –

6:13 You that rejoice in a thing of nought: you that say: Have we not taken unto us horns by our own strength?

6:13 Ihr frohlockt über (die Eroberung von) Lodabar und sagt: »Haben wir nicht durch eigene Kraft Karnaim uns wiedergewonnen?«

6:14 But behold, I will raise up a nation against you, O house of Israel, saith the Lord the God of hosts; and they shall destroy you from the entrance of Emath, even to the torrent of the desert.

6:14 Doch »wisset wohl, ihr vom Hause Israel: Ich lasse gegen euch ein Volk aufstehen« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN, des Gottes der Heerscharen –, »das soll euch bedrängen von da an, wo der Weg nach Hamath geht, bis an den Weidenbach!«
