16:1 The inscription of a title to David himself. Preserve me, O Lord, for I have put my trust in thee.

16:1 Ein Lied von David. Behüte mich, Gott, denn bei dir such’ ich Zuflucht!

16:2 I have said to the Lord, thou art my God, for thou hast no need of my goods.

16:2 Ich sage zu Gott: »Mein Allherr bist du, es gibt nichts Gutes für mich außer dir«;

16:3 To the saints, who are in his land, he hath made wonderful all my desires in them.

16:3 und von den Heiligen im Lande (sag ich): »Dies sind die Edlen, an denen mein ganzes Herz hängt.«

16:4 Their infirmities were multiplied: afterwards they made haste. I will not gather together their meetings for bloodofferings: nor will I be mindful of their names by my lips.

16:4 Vielfaches Leid erwächst den Verehrern anderer (Götter): ich mag ihre Bluttrankopfer nicht spenden und ihre Namen nicht auf meine Lippen nehmen.

16:5 The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup: it is thou that wilt restore my inheritance to me.

16:5 Der HERR ist mein Erbgut und Becherteil; du bist’s, der mein Los mir sichert.

16:6 The lines are fallen unto me in goodly places: for my inheritance is goodly to me.

16:6 Die Meßschnur ist mir gefallen aufs lieblichste ja, mein Erbteil gefällt mir gar wohl.

16:7 I will bless the Lord, who hath given me understanding: moreover, my reins also have corrected me even till night.

16:7 Ich preise den HERRN, der mich freundlich beraten; auch nächtens mahnt mich mein Herz dazu.

16:8 I set the Lord always in my sight: for he is at my right hand, that I be not moved.

16:8 Ich habe den HERRN mir beständig vor Augen gestellt: steht er mir zur Rechten, so wanke ich nicht.

16:9 Therefore my heart hath been glad, and my tongue hath rejoiced: moreover, my flesh also shall rest in hope.

16:9 Drum freut sich mein Herz, und meine Seele frohlockt: auch mein Leib wird sicher wohnen.

16:10 Denn du gibst meine Seele dem Totenreich nicht preis, du läßt deinen Frommen nicht schaun die Vernichtung.

16:11 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; nor wilt thou give thy holy one to see corruption.

16:11 Du weisest mir den Weg des Lebens: vor deinem Angesicht sind Freuden in Fülle und Segensgaben in deiner Rechten ewiglich.
