44:1 Unto the end, for them that shall be changed, for the sons of Core, for understanding. A canticle for the Beloved.

44:1 Dem Musikmeister; von den Korahiten ein Lehrgedicht.

44:2 Thy hand destroyed the Gentiles, and thou plantedst them: thou didst afflict the people and cast them out.

44:2 O Gott, mit eignen Ohren haben wir’s gehört, unsre Väter haben’s uns erzählt, was du Großes in ihren Tagen vollführt hast, in den Tagen der Vorzeit.

44:3 For they got not the possession of the land by their own sword: neither did their own arm save them. But thy right hand and thy arm, and the light of thy countenance: because thou wast pleased with them.

44:3 Du hast Heidenvölker mit deiner Hand vertrieben und sie an deren Stelle eingepflanzt; Völker hast du vernichtet, sie aber ausgebreitet.

44:4 Thou art thyself my king and my God, who commandest the saving of Jacob.

44:4 Denn nicht mit ihrem Schwerte haben sie das Land gewonnen, und nicht ihr Arm hat ihnen den Sieg verschafft, nein, deine Rechte und dein Arm und deines Angesichts Licht, denn du hattest Gefallen an ihnen.

44:5 Through thee we will push down our enemies with the horn: and through thy name we will despise them that rise up against us.

44:5 Nur du bist mein König, o Gott: entbiete Hilfe für Jakob!

44:6 For I will not trust in my bow: neither shall my sword save me.

44:6 Mit dir stoßen wir unsre Bedränger nieder, mit deinem Namen zertreten wir unsre Gegner.

44:7 But thou hast saved us from them that afflict us: and hast put them to shame that hate us.

44:7 Denn nicht auf meinen Bogen verlasse ich mich, und nicht mein Schwert verschafft mir den Sieg;

44:8 In God shall we glory all the day long: and in thy name we will give praise for ever.

44:8 nein, du gewährst uns Hilfe gegen unsre Bedränger und machst zuschanden, die uns hassen:

44:9 But now thou hast cast us off, and put us to shame: and thou, O God, wilt not go out with our armies.

44:9 Gottes rühmen wir uns allezeit und preisen deinen Namen ewiglich. SELA.

44:10 Thou hast made us turn our back to our enemies: and they that hated us plundered for themselves.

44:10 Und doch hast du uns verstoßen und Schmach uns angetan und ziehst nicht mehr aus mit unsern Heeren;

44:11 Thou hast given us up like sheep to be eaten: thou hast scattered us among the nations.

44:11 du hast vor dem Feinde uns weichen lassen, und die uns hassen, haben sich Beute geholt;

44:12 Thou hast sold thy people for no price: and there was no reckoning in the exchange of them.

44:12 du hast uns hingegeben wie Schafe zur Schlachtung und unter die Heiden uns zerstreut;

44:13 Thou hast made us a reproach to our neighbours, a scoff and derision to them that are round about us.

44:13 du hast dein Volk verkauft um ein Spottgeld und den Preis für sie gar niedrig angesetzt;

44:14 Thou hast made us a byword among the Gentiles: a shaking of the head among the people.

44:14 du hast uns unsern Nachbarn zum Hohn gemacht, zum Spott und Gelächter rings umher;

44:15 All the day long my shame is before me: and the confusion of my face hath covered me,

44:15 hast gemacht, daß den Heiden zum Sprichwort wir dienen, daß den Kopf die Völker über uns schütteln.

44:16 At the voice of him that reproacheth and detracteth me: at the face of the enemy and persecutor.

44:16 Allzeit steht meine Schmach mir vor Augen, und die (Röte der) Scham bedeckt mir das Antlitz,

44:17 All these things have come upon us, yet we have not forgotten thee: and we have not done wickedly in thy covenant.

44:17 weil ich höre den lauten Hohn und die Lästerreden, weil den Feind und seine Rachgier ich sehn muß.

44:18 And our heart hath not turned back: neither hast thou turned aside our steps from thy way.

44:18 Dies alles hat uns getroffen, und wir hatten dich doch nicht vergessen und dem Bunde mit dir die Treue nicht gebrochen.

44:19 For thou hast humbled us in the place of affliction: and the shadow of death hath covered us.

44:19 Unser Herz ist nicht von dir abgefallen und unser Schritt nicht abgewichen von deinem Pfade,

44:20 If we have forgotten the name of our God, and if we have spread forth our hands to a strange god:

44:20 daß du zermalmt uns hast an der Stätte der Schakale und mit Todesnacht uns umlagert hältst.

44:21 Hätten wir unsres Gottes Namen vergessen und unsre Hände erhoben zu einem fremden Gott:

44:22 Shall not God search out these things: for he knoweth the secrets of the heart. Because for thy sake we are killed all the day long: we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

44:22 würde Gott das nicht entdecken? Er kennt ja des Herzens geheimste Gedanken.

44:23 Arise, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, and cast us not off to the end.

44:23 Nein, um deinetwillen werden wir täglich gemordet und werden dem Schlachtvieh gleich geachtet.

44:24 Why turnest thou thy face away? and forgettest our want and our trouble?

44:24 Wach auf! Warum schläfst du, o Allherr? Erwache! Verwirf nicht für immer!

44:25 For our soul is humbled down to the dust: our belly cleaveth to the earth.

44:25 Warum verbirgst du dein Angesicht, denkst nicht an unser Elend und unsre Bedrängnis?

44:26 Arise, O Lord, help us and redeem us for thy name's sake.

44:26 Ach, bis in den Staub ist unsre Seele gebeugt, unser Leib liegt da, am Erdboden klebend!

44:27 Steh auf, komm uns zu Hilfe und erlöse uns um deiner Gnade willen!
