51:1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy great mercy. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my iniquity.

51:1 Dem Musikmeister; ein Psalm von David,

51:2 When Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul: David went to the house of Achimelech.

51:2 als der Prophet Nathan zu ihm kam, nachdem er sich mit Bathseba vergangen hatte.

51:3 For I know my iniquity, and my sin is always before me.

51:3 Sei mir gnädig, o Gott, nach deiner Güte! Nach deinem großen Erbarmen tilge meine Vergehen!

51:4 To thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before thee: that thou mayst be justified in thy words, and mayst overcome when thou art judged.

51:4 Wasche völlig mir ab meine Schuld und mache mich rein von meiner Missetat!

51:5 For behold I was conceived in iniquities; and in sins did my mother conceive me.

51:5 Ach, ich erkenne meine Vergehen wohl, und meine Missetat steht mir immerdar vor Augen!

51:6 For behold thou hast loved truth: the uncertain and hidden things of thy wisdom thou hast made manifest to me.

51:6 Gegen dich allein hab’ ich gesündigt und habe getan, was böse ist in deinen Augen, auf daß du recht behältst mit deinen Urteilssprüchen und rein dastehst mit deinem Richten.

51:7 Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.

51:7 Ach, in Schuld bin ich geboren, und in Sünde hat meine Mutter mich empfangen.

51:8 To my hearing thou shalt give joy and gladness: and the bones that have been humbled shall rejoice.

51:8 Du hast Gefallen an Wahrheit im innersten Herzen, und im Verborg’nen läßt du mich Weisheit erkennen.

51:9 Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

51:9 Entsündige mich mit Ysop, daß ich rein werde, wasche mich, daß ich weißer werde als Schnee.

51:10 Create a clean heart in me, O God: and renew a right spirit within my bowels.

51:10 Laß mich (wieder) Freude und Wonne empfinden, daß die Glieder frohlocken, die du zerschlagen.

51:11 Cast me not away from thy face; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

51:11 Verhülle dein Antlitz vor meinen Sünden und tilge alle meine Missetaten!

51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and strengthen me with a perfect spirit.

51:12 Schaffe mir, Gott, ein reines Herz und stell’ einen neuen, festen Geist in meinem Innern her!

51:13 I will teach the unjust thy ways: and the wicked shall be converted to thee.

51:13 Verwirf mich nicht von deinem Angesicht und nimm deinen heiligen Geist nicht weg von mir!

51:14 Deliver me from blood, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall extol thy justice.

51:14 Gib, daß ich deiner Hilfe mich wieder freue, und rüste mich aus mit einem willigen Geist!

51:15 O Lord, thou wilt open my lips: and my mouth shall declare thy praise.

51:15 Dann will ich die Übertreter deine Wege lehren, und die Missetäter sollen zu dir sich bekehren.

51:16 For if thou hadst desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: with burnt offerings thou wilt not be delighted.

51:16 Errette mich von Blutschuld, o Gott, du Gott meines Heils, damit meine Zunge deine Gerechtigkeit jubelnd preise!

51:17 A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

51:17 O Allherr, tu mir die Lippen auf, damit mein Mund deinen Ruhm verkünde!

51:18 Deal favourably, O Lord, in thy good will with Sion; that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.

51:18 Denn an Schlachtopfern hast du kein Gefallen, und brächte ich Brandopfer dar: du möchtest sie nicht.

51:19 Then shalt thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations and whole burnt offerings: then shall they lay calves upon thy altar.

51:19 Opfer, die Gott gefallen, sind ein zerbrochner Geist; ein zerbrochnes und zerschlagnes Herz wirst du, o Gott, nicht verschmähen. –

51:20 Tu doch Gutes an Zion nach deiner Gnade: baue Jerusalems Mauern wieder auf!

51:21 Dann wirst du auch Wohlgefallen haben an richtigen Opfern, an Brand- und Ganzopfern; dann wird man Farren opfern auf deinem Altar.
