89:1 The mercies of the Lord I will sing for ever. I will shew forth thy truth with my mouth to generation and generation.

89:1 misericordias Domini in aeternum cantabo in generationem et generationem adnuntiabo veritatem tuam in ore meo

89:2 For thou hast said: Mercy shall be built up for ever in the heavens: thy truth shall be prepared in them.

89:2 quoniam dixisti in aeternum misericordia aedificabitur in caelis praeparabitur veritas tua *in eis;

89:3 I have made a covenant with my elect: I have sworn to David my servant:

89:3 disposui testamentum electis meis iuravi David servo meo

89:4 usque in aeternum praeparabo semen tuum et aedificabo in generationem et generationem sedem tuam diapsalma

89:5 The heavens shall confess thy wonders, O Lord: and thy truth in the church of the saints.

89:5 confitebuntur caeli mirabilia tua Domine etenim veritatem tuam in ecclesia sanctorum

89:6 For who in the clouds can be compared to the Lord: or who among the sons of God shall be like to God?

89:6 quoniam quis in nubibus aequabitur Domino similis erit Domino in filiis Dei

89:7 God, who is glorified in the assembly of the saints: great and terrible above all them that are about him.

89:8 O Lord God of hosts, who is like to thee? thou art mighty, O Lord, and thy truth is round about thee.

89:8 Domine Deus virtutum quis similis tibi potens es Domine et veritas tua in circuitu tuo

89:9 Thou rulest the power of the sea: and appeasest the motion of the waves thereof.

89:10 Thou hast humbled the proud one, as one that is slain: with the arm of thy strength thou hast scattered thy enemies.

89:10 tu humiliasti sicut vulneratum superbum in brachio virtutis tuae dispersisti inimicos tuos

89:11 Thine are the heavens, and thine is the earth: the world and the fulness thereof thou hast founded:

89:11 tui sunt caeli et tua est terra orbem terrae et plenitudinem eius tu fundasti

89:12 The north and the sea thou hast created. Thabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name:

89:12 aquilonem et mare tu creasti Thabor et Hermon in nomine tuo exultabunt

89:13 Thy arm is with might. Let thy hand be strengthened, and thy right hand exalted:

89:13 tuum brachium cum potentia firmetur manus tua et exaltetur dextera tua

89:14 Justice and judgment are the preparation of thy throne. Mercy and truth shall go before thy face:

89:14 iustitia et iudicium praeparatio sedis tuae misericordia et veritas praecedent faciem tuam

89:15 Blessed is the people that knoweth jubilation. They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance:

89:15 beatus populus qui scit iubilationem Domine in lumine vultus tui ambulabunt

89:16 And in thy name they shall rejoice all the day, and in thy justice they shall be exalted.

89:16 et in nomine tuo exultabunt tota die et in iustitia tua exaltabuntur

89:17 For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy good pleasure shall our horn be exalted.

89:17 quoniam gloria virtutis eorum tu es et in beneplacito tuo exaltabitur cornu nostrum

89:18 For our protection is of the Lord, and of our king the holy one of Israel.

89:19 Then thou spokest in a vision to thy saints, and saidst: I have laid help upon one that is mighty, and have exalted one chosen out of my people.

89:19 tunc locutus es in visione sanctis tuis et dixisti posui adiutorium in potentem exaltavi electum de plebe mea

89:20 I have found David my servant: with my holy oil I have anointed him.

89:20 inveni David servum meum in oleo sancto meo linui eum

89:21 For my hand shall help him: and my arm shall strengthen him.

89:22 The enemy shall have no advantage over him: nor the son of iniquity have power to hurt him.

89:23 And I will cut down his enemies before his face; and them that hate him I will put to flight.

89:24 And my truth and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.

89:25 And I will set his hand in the sea; and his right hand in the rivers.

89:26 He shall cry out to me: Thou art my father: my God, and the support of my salvation.

89:26 ipse invocabit me pater meus es tu Deus meus et susceptor salutis meae

89:27 And I will make him my firstborn, high above the kings of the earth.

89:27 et ego primogenitum ponam illum excelsum prae regibus terrae

89:28 I will keep my mercy for him for ever: and my covenant faithful to him.

89:28 in aeternum servabo illi misericordiam meam et testamentum meum fidele ipsi

89:29 And I will make his seed to endure for evermore: and his throne as the days of heaven.

89:30 And if his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments:

89:30 si dereliquerint filii eius legem meam et in iudiciis meis non ambulaverint

89:31 If they profane my justices: and keep not my commandments:

89:31 si iustitias meas profanaverint et mandata mea non custodierint

89:32 I will visit their iniquities with a rod and their sins with stripes.

89:32 visitabo in virga iniquitates eorum et in verberibus peccata eorum

89:33 But my mercy I will not take away from him: nor will I suffer my truth to fail.

89:34 Neither will I profane my covenant: and the words that proceed from my mouth I will not make void.

89:35 Once have I sworn by my holiness: I will not lie unto David:

89:35 semel iuravi in sancto meo si David mentiar

89:36 His seed shall endure for ever.

89:36 semen eius in aeternum manebit

89:37 And his throne as the sun before me: and as the moon perfect for ever, and a faithful witness in heaven.

89:38 But thou hast rejected and despised: thou hast been angry with my anointed.

89:38 tu vero reppulisti et despexisti distulisti christum tuum

89:39 Thou hast overthrown the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his sanctuary on the earth.

89:39 evertisti testamentum servi tui profanasti in terram sanctuarium eius

89:40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges: thou hast made his strength fear.

89:40 destruxisti omnes sepes eius posuisti firmamenta eius formidinem

89:41 All that pass by the way have robbed him: he is become a reproach to his neighbours.

89:41 diripuerunt eum omnes transeuntes viam factus est obprobrium vicinis suis

89:42 Thou hast set up the right hand of them that oppress him: thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.

89:42 exaltasti dexteram deprimentium eum laetificasti omnes inimicos eius

89:43 Thou hast turned away the help of his sword; and hast not assisted him in battle.

89:44 Thou hast made his purification to cease: and thou hast cast his throne down to the ground.

89:44 destruxisti eum a mundatione sedem eius in terram conlisisti

89:45 Thou hast shortened the days of his time: thou hast covered him with confusion.

89:45 minorasti dies temporis eius perfudisti eum confusione diapsalma

89:46 How long, O Lord, turnest thou away unto the end? shall thy anger burn like fire?

89:46 usquequo Domine avertis in finem exardescet sicut ignis ira tua

89:47 Remember what my substance is: for hast thou made all the children of men in vain?

89:48 Who is the man that shall live, and not see death: that shall deliver his soul from the hand of hell?

89:49 Lord, where are thy ancient mercies, according to what thou didst swear to David in thy truth?

89:49 ubi sunt misericordiae tuae antiquae Domine sicut iurasti David in veritate tua

89:50 Be mindful, O Lord, of the reproach of thy servants (which I have held in my bosom) of many nations:

89:50 memor esto Domine obprobrii servorum tuorum quod continui in sinu meo multarum gentium

89:51 Wherewith thy enemies have reproached, O Lord; wherewith they have reproached the change of thy anointed.

89:51 quod exprobraverunt inimici tui Domine quod exprobraverunt commutationem christi tui

89:52 Blessed be the Lord for evermore. So be it. So be it.

89:52 benedictus Dominus in aeternum fiat fiat
