139:1 Dem Musikmeister, von David ein Psalm. HERR, du erforschest mich und kennst mich;

139:1 Unto the end, a psalm of David.

139:2 du weißt es, ob ich sitze oder aufstehe, du verstehst, was ich denke, von ferne;

139:2 Thou hast known my sitting down, and my rising up.

139:3 ob ich wandre oder ruhe, du prüfst es und bist mit all meinen Wegen vertraut;

139:3 Thou hast understood my thoughts afar off: my path and my line thou hast searched out.

139:4 denn ehe ein Wort auf meiner Zunge liegt, kennst du, o HERR, es schon genau.

139:4 And thou hast foreseen all my ways: for there is no speech in my tongue.

139:5 Du hältst mich von hinten und von vorne umschlossen und hast deine Hand auf mich gelegt.

139:5 Behold, O Lord, thou hast known all things, the last and those of old: thou hast formed me, and hast laid thy hand upon me.

139:6 Zu wunderbar ist solches Wissen für mich, zu hoch: ich vermag’s nicht zu begreifen!

139:6 Thy knowledge is become wonderful to me: it is high, and I cannot reach to it.

139:7 Wohin soll ich gehn vor deinem Geist und wohin fliehn vor deinem Angesicht?

139:7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy face?

139:8 Führe ich auf zum Himmel, so wärst du da, und lagert’ ich mich in der Unterwelt, so wärst du dort;

139:9 nähme ich Schwingen des Morgenrots zum Flug und ließe mich nieder am äußersten Westmeer,

139:9 If I take my wings early in the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea:

139:10 so würde auch dort deine Hand mich führen und deine Rechte mich fassen;

139:10 Even there also shall thy hand lead me: and thy right hand shall hold me.

139:11 und spräch’ ich: »Lauter Finsternis soll mich umhüllen und Nacht sei das Licht um mich her!« –

139:11 And I said: Perhaps darkness shall cover me: and night shall be my light in my pleasures.

139:12 auch die Finsternis würde für dich nicht finster sein, vielmehr die Nacht dir leuchten wie der Tag: Finsternis wäre für dich wie das Licht.

139:12 But darkness shall not be dark to thee, and night shall be light all the day: the darkness thereof, and the light thereof are alike to thee.

139:13 Denn du bist’s, der meine Nieren gebildet, mich gewoben im Schoß meiner Mutter.

139:13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast protected me from my mother's womb.

139:14 Ich danke dir, daß ich so überaus wunderbar bereitet bin: wunderbar sind deine Werke, und meine Seele erkennt das wohl.

139:14 I will praise thee, for thou art fearfully magnified: wonderful are thy works, and my soul knoweth right well.

139:15 Meine Wesensgestaltung war dir nicht verborgen, als im Dunkeln ich gebildet ward, kunstvoll gewirkt in den Tiefen der Erde.

139:15 My bone is not hidden from thee, which thou hast made in secret: and my substance in the lower parts of the earth.

139:16 Deine Augen sahen mich schon als formlosen Keim, und in deinem Buch standen eingeschrieben alle Tage, die vorbedacht waren, als noch keiner von ihnen da war.

139:16 Thy eyes did see my imperfect being, and in thy book all shall be written: days shall be formed, and no one in them.

139:17 Für mich nun – wie kostbar sind deine Gedanken, o Gott, wie gewaltig sind ihre Summen!

139:17 But to me thy friends, O God, are made exceedingly honourable: their principality is exceedingly strengthened.

139:18 Wollt’ ich sie zählen: ihrer sind mehr als des Sandes; wenn ich erwache, bin ich noch immer bei dir.

139:18 I will number them, and they shall be multiplied above the sand, I rose up and am still with thee.

139:19 Möchtest du doch die Frevler töten, o Gott! Und ihr Männer der Blutschuld, weichet von mir!

139:19 If thou wilt kill the wicked, O God: ye men of blood, depart from me:

139:20 Sie, die von dir mit Arglist reden, mit Falschheit reden als deine Widersacher.

139:20 Because you say in thought: They shall receive thy cities in vain.

139:21 Sollt’ ich nicht hassen, die dich, HERR, hassen, nicht verabscheun, die sich erheben gegen dich?

139:21 Have I not hated them, O Lord, that hated thee: and pined away because of thy enemies?

139:22 Ja, ich hasse sie mit tödlichem Haß: als Feinde gelten sie mir.

139:22 I have hated them with a perfect hatred: and they are become enemies to me.

139:23 Erforsche mich, Gott, und erkenne mein Herz, prüfe mich und erkenne meine Gedanken!

139:23 Prove me, O God, and know my heart: examine me, and know my paths.

139:24 Und sieh, ob ich wandle auf trüglichem Wege, und leite mich auf dem ewigen Wege!

139:24 And see if there be in me the way of iniquity: and lead me in the eternal way.
