Christopher
Saint Christopher is the patron of travelers, motorists, and all who journey because of the legend enshrined in his very name, “Christ-bearer”: a giant who ferried wayfarers across a perilous river one night carried a small child who grew crushingly heavy mid-stream — for the child was Christ, bearing the weight of the world. Having safely brought the Lord across the water, he became the natural protector of every traveler, and his image guards countless cars, ships, and roadside shrines. For the same reason he is invoked against floods, storms, and sudden death — that a traveler not perish unprepared — and modern devotion has extended his care to athletes, surfers, and drivers, all who move and risk the road or the wave.
Saint Christopher is one of the most popular saints in Eastern and Western Christianity. According to legend, he was a giant of a man who carried travelers across a dangerous river. One day, he carried a child who grew incredibly heavy — revealed to be Christ carrying the weight of the world. His name means “Christ-bearer.”
